Having been looking at an RS4 Avant, a friend of my wife (who the car will mainly be driven by) has pointed out that they are specificlly targeted by scum to steal/car-jack!

Is this just an urban myth, or real? Are they more "collectable" than Porsche/BMW et al??

Are insurance companies demanding Trackers/high premiums for RS4s and Avants?

Trackers YES in some areas, most scum thieves, think an RS4 will have tracker fitted and leave well alone. Insurance again depends on Post Code, mine is quite low. I have tracker horizon fitted (suplied free with the car)

Trackers I would think are obigatory just as they are on M3's

RS4 Avant in good getaway car if you ask me, so I could well believe they could be a target for carjacking etc to steal one (just as Subarus etc)

The down side to a very fast practical car

Trackers arn't standard and you don't have to have them. I have an RS4 parked outside without and the insurance is reasonable.

I heard this urban myth too, just nonsense IMHO caused by the fact such a quick car hides behind a relatively unassuming 4 door saloon/estate. I imagine any sensible bunch of thieves will choose a common car like a 3 series, drive slowly so as not arouse suspicion and if a chase did ensue the police with sirens/helicpoters have the advantage regardless of how fast your getaway car is.

Plenty of insurers do not insist on tracker and I used one because I do not want tracker, premiums were the most competitive too.

So no real reported problems from members on here then? Good to know.

Tracker will be fitted anyway, as with a crash and a theft already on the insurance policy the protected no-claims is already shot to hell so would really really want the car back if it was knicked. Another full-loss claim on the policy would destroy premiums for life, I would think.

FYI apparently there are 40 unregistered RS4 Avants left in the network. Obvioulsy all specced as the books are now closed on the Avant.

Other possible rumour from dealer is that there will not be any more RS4 variants, as the S5 will carry the RS badge in this sector going forward.....
