Not all links opening in new windows?

PH format used to be that all links opened in a new window. Now only some do and I can't work out which do and which don't.

The number of times I've closed down my "PH" window, thinking it was whichever page I've just clicked on is beginning to touch my nerves slightly (I know I know I really should have better things to worry about, still...)

Any chance of explaining why some do open a new window and some don't, better yet what the parameters are so I can try to learn them, or reset them to always open a new window?

I get the same thing on Fire Fox.

And Opera 9.21 (and have done the same thing, shutting PH down).

I'm getting that too (IE7). Seems random, IIRC I was linking to youtube from a thread, some would open new window, others not?

I would hazard a guess that it's something to do with pages that have been rebuilt recently. All the latest pages validate (or nearly validate) to XHTML 1.0 and one of the related accessibility rules is that thou shalt not pop up new windows until such time as browsers give the user the option to choose not to.
