x-type vibration??

Hi all, i have noticed at between 30-40mph when decelerating i get a vibration through the steering wheel and a whirring noise! seems fine accelerating and cruising! any ideas fellas?

Could be the mondeo trying to get out?


Seriously though, I'd start by checking things like tyre pressures, tyre balance, maybe jack the car up and check for play with the wheel/driveshafts/trackrod ends etc. Not quite sure what the whirring sound would be, not encountered anything like that at all before.

Loose top mount maybe?

Is it just at those speeds? ie, if you brake from 70 is it smooth until 40 where it begins to vibrate then ok again from 30-0?

I havent noticed it from higher speeds! it starts from anywhere from 40 down to 30 and shuts up at about 15-20mph. could it be a driveshaft or cv joint?
