I was at North Weald Airfield yesterday and a bog standard 997 Turbo did a 11.6 quarter mile - he hit 125 mph

He stuck it in drive -foot on the brake and accelerator and off he went !
he also owned a 430 and Gallardo and said the Porsche would easily beat the other 2

That is incredible seeing it was bog standard !

Close to a magical 10 second car !

I did 3 x 12.7 @115 mph - in the GT2 -

I was going to say were you sure it wasn't modified, but then a 996 X50 does it in 11.8 secs or so, so sounds about right.

I lined up against it then waited for the Christmas lights
when they hit green I was struggling to get the power down on the GT2 .
The 997 shot off - I was starting to catch it near the quarter mile

The 0-64 foot timing must have been well below 2 seconds

My time might have Improved with better tyres/pressures but seeing 997 doing runs between 11.6-11.9 was something else ( his 18 year old son was doing alternate runs FFS !!! )

And before you lot start talking about how you could have done this time and that time - you should try doing one of these ( not as easy as you think )

Recently I did an 11.7 run at 124.98 in my standard 996 gt2 - no wheelspin off the line and progressive throttle....

Makes you wonder re the 997 GT2, 7.4 to 100(with sticky rubber), on that same run I managed 99.9mph at 7.7something secs.

I think my point is bang per buck 996GT2 is virtually unsurpassed.

well done jammmy ( you did a quick time in the GT2 )-

I have not done this type of drag race type thing before .

I was probably a bit pre occupied lined up beside the 997 turbo beside me waiting for the Christmas lights to go white ... orange .... green with all the spectators on either side

Great fun though - dont know when the next one is though

Imagine what the 997 GT2 will do with launch control

it was a gaytronic, the driver is simply a passenger.

Jesus what is it with you 'bashing' people who chose to buy a car that suits them best? I drive in London a lot, my left foot is held on mainly with metal pins, my wife (see, I'm not gay either, so that's a pathetic and offensive playground comment) drives the car and prefers a tip (sorry, I'm sure your wife could beat her up)

It's clear you are a genius behind the wheel and are very big and strong, but ffs, let people choose what car THEY want to drive.

D1ck.
just saying the driver has nothing to do with accelerating an automatic car in a straight line so the 18 yo wasn't necessarily a prodigy. chill man or someone will think you have a chip on your shoulder.

Don't forget that the "auto" version of the 997 will sense a full bore start and sort the diffs out for full acceleration. I recall reading in evo that the tip will be faster than the manual on a full bore launch.

this is because you can brake-boost, not due to the tip sensing anything.

Yeah but no but yeah but, my wife is well faster than yours. Lets be honest GT2,GT3 Turbo/ 996(fugly) or 997 (better 993 look alike and all the better for it), they are all still quick up the strip. Tiptronic, yes I can't drive, plant foot press ctrl, alt, del and then marry launch control is as gay as it comes but thats the same of a lot of cars... wink

A 997 GT2 in white mind you is a fine looking thing..
