been told that my rack could do with some attention soon.
what is the make and model no and is it ford/rover may just get a new one and replace rather than refurbing the old one.

There are a few different ones. If it's manual then most likely a MK4/5 Cortina. If it's P/S then it could be Ford, Rover or Supra. May be easier to go down the recon route. Cheers Steve.

forgot to sayits a 1988 power steering manual been quoted £690 to replace with a recon unit and send mine as exchange just wondering for that sort of money trying to find a new one.

I think SH recently said the Supra one was the name of the manufacturing company rather than the model of car it was used on.

that price was labour as well to fit still high?
looking at the wedge pages its a cortina mk 4 rack for the 350i would a 390se with pas be the same unit?

There are various power steering racks which have been modified by one of 3 companies IIRC. (Supra, Burman and ... someone else).

I found the easiest was to have my old rack reconditioned - at least that way there are no fitment issues. Cost was about £80 and turn round time was next day. Your quote of £600 odd sounded a right rip-off to me. I'd be looking at nearer £200 - £250 fitted.

I doubt you would get a new one any longer.

FFS. 4 bolts to chassis, couple of pipes, two TREs and a column UJ? For that money I'd want it hand-filed from a solid block of Unobtanium and fitted by sixth-formers from Bolton Girl's School... in full PE kit biggrin

I see what you mean. I think they keep the Unobtanium in that shiny cup....
