Had my 996TT for around 4months now, I've started to enjoy it more since the remap/zorst/Dv's, seems to of taken its prefect badge off
.. But I'm still not getting the buzz I feel I should be. Considering the £££ involved I want that buzz!. Same old really, everything to easy, esp. gathering huge numbers on speedo. Yes, I could drive slower, but this car only really comes alive when you're cracking on.
This is my main problem. I want a car that is a little more alive.. Can't go GT3/2 route as need the 4 seats, looked outside Porsche but nothing really compares, been tempted to go down the B5 RS4 route, but driving a m8's I know I'd bore of it, also, no other car feels like a porca!. I'd be happy with a little less speed and a little more presence.
The 993TT demons are still circling me. Some is the looks, some is the old school feel and build, some is the fact that it'll not drop like a rock in depreciation.. I'm sure many feel the same. Why didn't I get one instead of the 996, uck knows, bought with head instead of heart I suppose.
Had a good chat with Kayc
a while back, similar feelings if not a few years ahead of me. Both want a 'keeper'. Fed up of always trying to strive for the next best thing... Kayc's offered me a go in his, but he's a fair few miles away and my free w/e's are pretty scarce , apart from the fact I know if I get within 50ft of him he'll mind-melb me into getting one the next day
So what I'm on the hunt for is a 993TT owner in/around the Suffolk area who is either really generous or fancies a go in a warmed over 996TT .. I'd be happy with an hour or a few days swop, all above board with insurance etc...
Drop us a PM or answer on here if you're interested.

Hi John,
what you really need to try is the big single turbo variant. That big torque push is unique as any of us 964 turbo guys will tell you. Having driven an unmodified 993 GT2 the power delivery of the 964 3.6 turbo is much more fun. Taller gears and much longer push. Maybe if the 993 GT2 was making big HP numbers it might be different. I've never driven the 996 TT but I would not think that the 993 TT will feel an awful lot different. Your more than welcome to experience mine but I am NW London.
cheers Graeme

had a 993tt 430bhp. loved it totally, looks , build , sound etc....dont know why sold it then only 48k back to porsche 7k from new! they did me franky , i missed the porsche so much, replaced it with a mk1 gt3. honestly ......gt3 is better: newer , more feel ( 993tt somehow a little wooden feeling now ) and sounds even better ( i do have a porsche sports exhaust too on gt3 )
therefore if you can do with 2 seats buy a gt3, a total keeper if a mk1

Rears for the kids?? My GT3 MK 2 is sorted, belts going in and porsche kids seats fit perfectly ,adults can just sit in the seat spaces,so no excuses, and I've got buckets in the front....no FAMILY will stop my GT3 needs.....!
Not sure if you have checked it out but this may void your insurance, as the GT3 was not manufactured with 4 seats. Silly I know...Edited by G T 3 on Monday 16th July 22:17
As you say, you have to drive one.
It will feel very archaic compared to your 996, though better built.
A stock 993 turbo won't be as quick as your enhanced 996, nor be as capable dynamically, or have any electronic aids. I think it would be more rewarding to drive though?
If you do want to mod a 993, and no doubt you will, they are much more expensive to tune properly than a 996.
Be prepared for larger service bills, as irrespective of the condition / mileage of any turbo you buy bits simply wear out given the age of these cars.
All of the above said, they are brill cars

I also had the same feelings that your talking about.
I had a 996 Turbo X50 but it didn't feel special enough. I ended up driving faster and faster just to keep the thrill, To be honest it only felt alive in the rain.
Then one day I was out on a nice country drive and I looked in my rear view mirror
and saw a GT3 RS and everything became crystal clear.
I now have an GT3 RS and it certainly feels special even when driving slowly.

I've got several Porches including a 993t, GT3 RS and 997t.
I think it's the shortcoming in the 993 that make it interesting. The 997 just does everything so well it takes some of the driving pleasure away.
Also I think the 993t is the best looking car of the lot and certainly the best in terms od depreciation, in fact I think it's reaching the stage where there could be some appreciation.
