Wouldn't bother tuning the 2.0 litre, MK3 cabrio is a heavy bugger and you don't want to sacrifice any torque. VR6 probably the easiest, find yourself an accident damaged car and bolt it all in. Could probably do it in a weekend.

cheers was hoping a vr6 engine would fit in without any trouble...it's my first golf project and was wanting to make a rare head turner so if I'm better spending my money on external mods then i will but I'd try anything to try and squeeze a bit more power from it

As mentioned you could go for the VR6 or you could go with the 2.0l 16v from the Mk3 Gti, as both engines were fitted to the Mk3 it would be a relatively easy conversion.

You could also think about fitting a 1.8T engine from a Mk4 Gti / Audi TT / Seat etc...

What body mods have you got in mind? Mk3s look great with a bit of smoothing and shaving here and there, dropped over a nice set of wheels.

nothin too over the top but just a bit of a nip and a tuck here and there remove plastic trim from the sides an smooth over and fit a modist bodykit poss this one http://www.liquidautomotive.com/golf3/exterior/rac... possibly a new interior, maybe leather from a jetta but back seat could be a problem with a cabrio will have to shop around to see what will fit without too much work..... vr6 engine might be the way to go, I know you can get a lot of improved performance from it by fitting/modifying a few parts

I was just lookin at info on fittin a turbo to the existing engine and it would cost around £2500.00 for the kit. is there a cheaper way of doin it (ie buy a turbo from a scrapper and moddin it to fit in)????
