E36 328i Sport rattly Catalytic Converters
Discussion
I've just had heart failure checking out the costs of replacing said items should they need it:
The reason being is I get a slight rasp when pulling away - disappears when revving though.
Now I initially thought that the baffles had gone, but the symptoms don't really match that, and having a dig around, I found that many people have tried various methods to shut their rattly cats up. Its to do with the cat heatshield being slightly loose?
Also, whos the cheapest for replacement cats if ever needed?

- Whack a screw/bolt in there and it wedges it to stop it?
- Find a friendly indy and get them to pop a few spots of weld on the cat heatshield?

I think yer getting your exhaust heatshield and catalytic converter heatshields mixed up there chaps
I do indeed have the usual loose and buggered exhaust heatshield, held in by various parts of B+Qs finest.
However I'm talking about the thick shield around the two Cats (actually looks like the outer bit of the cat, when actually its a heatshield for the cat inside to stop it being damaged by water and stuff).
These, by all accounts get a little loose over time and start to 'fart' as it were at pull-away.
