applying for Trade Plates
Discussion
thanks for that, i had the impression that thier the same price as the highest band of road tax is for the year?, so i assume it would be £300 or £400 or however much it is to tax a band G car for the year?.
thanks for the info on test drives, i wasnt aware you both got fined, however i wont be dealing in any particularly performance orientated marques
, i need trade plates mostly for bringing the cars back from the auction house im going to use as they more often than not come without any tax, got quite a surprisingly decent quote on trade insurance today too which im happy about

Also trade plates only cover you to 50mph for some reason (although I have never never seen that enforced) and are meant to be fitted at the extreme ends of the vehicle, not chucked in the front screen and on the rear parcel shelf
I do know people who have been stopped for that one though.
I do know people who have been stopped for that one though.Another thing for you to think about is that the car that wears the trade plates is only insured from where the plates start & finish. IE: if you put the front plate by the windscreen and the rear plate in the back window, you get shunted from behind into the car in front (front & rear damage) the insurance won't cover it!!!!!
The long rubber ends are good for trapping in the bonnet when you shut it and can be tied or looped together and hooked over the rear wiper for instance or again trap them in the boot when you shut it. I've never lost any this way nor damaged a car or been pulled over and have the peace of mind that if some tool crashes in to me then I'm covered by insurance.
EAT: just read post above, I wasn't aware of the 50MPH limit you sure about that? I'm going to have to check as I religiously conduct test drives on the full range of road types and speeds 30-70MPH, dual carrageways single tracks and m-way.

i would have thought they cover you within the speed limit surely?
Only up to 50.I've worked with trade plates for the last 5 years, that said I've never bothered and never had a problem, just one to be aware of.
