Could be a good strategic decision but will this make it even more difficult to manage expectations? Surely they're struggling to keep up with Newey without having his old Williams colleague or do you think this is a vital piece of the puzzle?

I am glad, hopefully Red Bull can start improving.
I think Geoff Willis was the strongest link in the Honda chain along with Gil De Ferran, I think they were wrong to sack him when it should have been Nick Fry who should have gone!
I think Geoff Willis just needed someone good to work with. When Adrian Newey went to McLaren, Gavin Fisher became the Williams designer and they lost their way, since then Willis has had to rebuild his career even though he was the scape-goat of the BAR saga.

To my mind, both Willis and Fisher always worked best behind a good designer. Fisher was stitched up by that Italian woman (Antonia Terzia?) responsible for the tusks on the FW26.

In an interview in this month's Racecar Engineering, Newey states how much he relies on Smith's man-management skills....now that's odd, given the fact that Willis isn't known for his skills in that area...which suggests perhaps that Smith was either not happy about Willis coming on board or had already signalled his intention to go for the Honda Technical Director role (or maybe BMW) and the Willis move is unconnected to his decision to move?
