Hi

After almost a year away from the fold having sold my GT2 and 968 Clubsport and being lured in by a radical and a 355gts, radical stunning, 355 crap!!! I am hoping to buy a very nice GT3, it's a comfort MK1 and I will be extensively tracking it here in Spain as I have just setup trackdaysspain.com and hope to get as much track time for myself as poss.

I am toying with the idea of fitting a half cage and a suede steering wheel as per a GT3RS, does anyone know of prices for this and where I can get it done in the south east?

Thanks in advance

JZM are quite handy at doing these kinds of things on GT3s. See www.jzmachtech.com.

Or Manthey can do it if you fancy driving up there. Or Parr are also in the South East.

Can get an idea of prices from www.carnewal.com.

Mike,

You don't want to buy a GT3....they're rubbish, honest, don't do it mate.

D'Oh! wink

I had a price for a Tequiptment one from Porsche reading which was about 20% below cost I think....£650 rings a bell. The GT3 boys get quite a good discount if your in the 'know'.

If you can get it delivered here I'll see if I can get it fitted for you for pick up....how good am I? wink

Rod called tonight...says some weirdo he's never met wants him to look at a car for him...hopefully he's coming Thursday. wink

Still raining.....

You don't want a Porsche "suede" steering wheel. You really don't.

Genuine suede feels wonderful to the touch, but it absorbs the oil and perspiration from your skin and will turn to shite within 2,000 miles. At that point it feels truly horrible, and looks awful too.

Not to worry about that aspect, because the Porsche wheel is covered in alcantara, which is a synthetic.
The good news is that it maintains its look for a lot longer, and is far more resistant to wear than natural suede is.
Unfortunately, the very bad news is that alcantara will feel clammy to the touch; its fibres do not seem to breathe at all. After just a few minutes of driving, your hands begin to get too warm, and then slightly damp.
Imagine wrapping your fingers around a piece of plastic for an hour - it's slightly worse than that, because in addition to the warmth and dampness, there are all these annoying fuzzy bits that cloud the steering feel.

Normal leather is far better, even the crap leather that Porsche use on their steering wheels.

If you want to change the wheel, why not go for a smaller diameter Momo job?

Could do, but the smaller the diameter, the less precision in your steering.

After building our own red GT3RS we struggled to get the parts we wanted to finish the project. as a result we have now produced a replica of the GT3RS rear cage but incorporating a little more clearance so that it does not rub on the headlining when fitted. Similarly we can also recover your steering wheel in alacantara - grey or black - for our RS we did the wheel in black with a red "centre" marker ring at the top. If you need info or prices on these parts, call us and speak to Marc.

It says it is for a cabrio?!?!?! Also far less triangulations than the OEM job.

That is the OEM Tequipment. There are less triangulations because it isn't a full cage requiring support structures for the front part of a full cage. But it does the job if the car rolled.

But is the cabrio one different....it has different parts number....the person selling this bought it off ebay at same price only days earlier...which leads me to think maybe it is????????????????

Thanks guys, as always very helpful, I have contacted the seller and will prob go down the route of the seconhand one and accept Jasons kind offer of getting it fitted!

FYI Parr wanted 850 plus VAT plus 320 plus VAT for fitting for a new one.

Never seen one fitted, but apparently the trick is to raise the car up a bit on a ramp. Allows a better entry angle.

If it is the one in the picture it is a standard 996 OEM cage from the teqequipment http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/pe... range with a porsche part number its a perfict fit and works with the stock porsche schroth harness system its not just for a cabrio but if you have a cabrio it is the only one porsche will fit as the panamericana cage is for the coupe only http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/pe...

I would recomend Parr as the job they did was perfect they did not damage the carpit as some instilations I have seen in GT3's Ted down there is a top chap.
