Six guys from Penistone bought a Montego and Cavalier, £100 each, and headed for the Nurburgring for a few sedate laps.

The two lads in the Montego typed the town into Autoroute, via Paris(!), and headed east.

Stopping for petrol at journey's end, they asked a local for directions to the 'ring.

"You go back zer, from vhere you came, zis iz NurNburg, you vant Nurburg................"

That extra 'n', typed into Autoroute, took 'em 500 miles out of their way, almost into Munich!

Round trip..........1,700 miles.

Reread your post; not wanting to be pedantic or else, but you surely mean Nürnberg?

"You go back zer, from vhere you came, zis iz NurNburg, you vant Nurburg................"

>> Actually, it seems quite popular to confuse Nürburg and Nürnberg, as I've read on that page:
www.etracks.freeserve.co.uk/TrackRec/norisring_tr.html

It's about Nürnberg's own temporary track, the Norisring.

Not to be confused with the more famous Nürburgring, the circuit takes its title from the former name of Nürnberg, Noris. Still though, tens of visitors make the trip each year to Nürnberg, in the mistaken belief that they will find the Nordschliefe nestling somewhere among the tribunes.

In the article in the Sun newspaper these cretins claim to have "raced" during a tourist session in these heaps of sh1te. Glad they didn't slide out on a corner and take out a biker or a motorist.

We really do not need morons like this in unprepared non-trackworthy vehicles "on toll road"

DAZ

PS - The article also mentioned twelve laps costing 14 euros. Try multiplying that by 10 you muppets.

Yes but, if you type Nurnburg into Autoroute, it points you to Nurnberg. This, I assume, is what these lads did.

My second keying of Nurnburg was just for the sake of consistency.....(ahem)

You're right, I've just tried that. When you type "Nürn" into Phillips Carin, it suggests and autocompletion for "Nürnberg".
