Well, I hate to disappoint you, but this isn't a thread relating my latest sexual conquest!

No, it's all to do with this 'ere '87 390SE of mine. See, it was a fine cool evening at the private test track :ahem: and I thought I'd see 'what she could do' since it's now 3000 miles since the engine rebuild, I've lifted the rev limit and fiddled with the fuelling. And the result...
An indicated 150 mph at 5000 rpm. Which is of course nonsense: the car was only ever quoted as being good for 136, and if the diff ratio is 3.54:1 that equates to 25.4mph per 1000rpm in top, which makes 5000 rpm actually about 127 (it would be 150 at 6000, which you couldn't possibly see, surely?).
Now I've been that fast (125-ish) before, and given the amount of track :ahem: I had to use to get there, and the fact that everything was going streaky (including my undies) I'd have to say it 'seemed' faster. Now if the rpm is right, and it is only doing 127, that would seem to be an unfit setup, since there didn't seem to be much left in the way of power.
Any ideas on how much track :ahem: might be required to reach, say, 130 (I had an indicated 130 in 4th at just over 5000rpm, but I don't believe that either), and has anyone any reliable data for the wedges? How accurate can a GPS unit be for showing actual speed?
I had the rear roof up, but the centre panel off, and the windows up, in case anyone was about to ask.

Ian

When they released the 390SE back in '84 they claimed 0-60 in 5.0 sec and 165mph. Oh yes they did!
