Must have options for new X5?

A mate is speccing a 4.8 at the moment...

What is the PH collective view on:

Active Steering
Adaptive Drive?
Comfort Access?
Dynamic Cruise Control (is this the one that can bring you to a halt and creep in traffic?)
Adaptive headlamps?
HUD! (Seems a lot of dosh if all it does is project speed and directions on the screen.)
Any other cool options??

Adaptive drive is very good indeed and I found the HUD really useful although it does cost a bit!

I doubt anyone buying a 4.8 X5 gives two hoots about an extra being 'worth' the momeny. He might as well put any extra he wants on it, it's still going to depreciate faster than Mugabes popularity ratings.

I know that both are ridiculously expensive but I think the six foot ones represent better value than the four foot ones. You also don't get hit as hard on resale.

Value for money isn't his primary concern. You can get 6% off list here and with VAT being only 7.6% and petrol 25% cheaper, "going large" doesn't have to break the bank - but he doesn't feel the need to go mad.

NO, Old ML was 7 seat and so is new one.

NO, Old ML was 7 seat and so is new one.

The new ML doesn't have a 7 seat option.

Just got mine.

Active Steering - Nah

Adaptive Drive? - Not tried it, but can't see it being worth the money.

Comfort Access? - If you want to dangle your keyfob off lots of other keys, essential. The "key" is now in the dash and you'll scratch it to buggery if you have any keys on it.

Dynamic Cruise Control (is this the one that can bring you to a halt and creep in traffic?) - Don't remember that option???

Adaptive headlamps? - Oh yes, brilliant!

HUD! (Seems a lot of dosh if all it does is project speed and directions on the screen.) - Nope, it displays speed, directions, cruise control speed & status, messages and warnings etc. Well well worth the money as it's far safer and very good.


Any other cool options??

Comfort seats. Very very comfy and the side bolsters are cool.
Panoramic sunroof - soooo nice on a sunny day

I assume he's getting the "normal" stuff (auto dim&fold mirrors, bluetooth, nav, etc. etc.)

What makes you say that. I'm on my 3rd X5 and compared to the rest of my garage over the years it's depreciated very well.

My first one (3.0i) lost £6k on £44k over 2 years, last one (4.4i) lost 48% over 3.

I don't expect the latest 4.8i new shape to be any worse.

I think the market has changed. The X5 kept it's money very well for years I agree but I think a change in attitudes has arrived and coupled with a continually high fuel prices I can't imagine a 4.8i holding it's value in the same way.

I may well be proved wrong - just my opinion.
