in the past i found myself taking an asscensoredle to the small claims court to retrieve money he owed me.
i won, but had to settle for a percentage as he contested the amount, and i needed the money.
he then held out until the last day to pay me, grrr . after that i could have paid to send the bailiffes around.

has anyone ever gone this far and paid the fee, and the bailiffes gone round? how did you get on?
if they are a homeownerer does this make any difference?

We very rarely instruct bailiffs to collect for our clients. Unless the bailiff has a court order they cant really do a lot unless they can gain access to a premisis, which is the hard bit. They cannot force entry to a property unless they either have said court order, or have already visited the property (gained access) and listed goods for auction.

There are a multitude of far more effective measures that can be employed to obtain payment.

We do not discuss our tactics in public. However they are all legal remedies we do not "send the boys 'round" anymore (well not that much)http://www.debtcollectioncompany.co.uk
