Having trouble with wipers not working smoothly (or not at all & sticking on driver's side). Noticed that problem seems to be caused by wiper motor not being held securely & therefore moving as it is activated. This "kinks" the linkage to wipers & whole thing seizes.
Wiper motor is secured only by strap across body. Tying this down tightly as poss will not hold motor stationary.
Anybody any ideas how to rectify? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Its only clamped in, sounds more like your linkage/boxes are seized up to me.

do you have the rubber strip underneath the motor, and also the rubber strip that fits under the clamp, if you have lost these then the clamp will not grip the motor housing.

Is the rubber body mounting that spans the bracket in place (this actually fits between the 2 bolts is a sort of hex shape and about 10mm thick in the middle and allows the U band to clamp the motor to the shell)

Along with the band rubber too as CliveF mentions...

Yes, I have both rubber bits, though maybe they might be a little compressed. Linkages etc do not seem to be seized as the wipers will work if I wedge the wiper motor in place with a piece of wood.

There is a alloy ferrule that is captured into the front end of the motor between the alloy gearbox casing and gearbox cover (the part the brass nut bolts to) is this broken?

sounds as though the swaged end on the tube that goes to the wiper boxes, the wiper motor should work even without the retaining strap this happened on my Griff, two options take out all the dash and fit new wiper machinery or solder a new flange onto the end of the tube ( what I did) still working 3 years and several rainy days later.
