Are we all mugs in the UK?
Discussion
OK this afternoon has been shit and I've reduced the Lambo to 99k for a quicker sale, so after a few emails and calls about the car as I'd stuck it in Autotrader aswell, out of the blue I get a call from Tom Hartley. Gary, nice chap who I'd spoke to previously over a couple of things in the last few months, tells me that they have 2 new LP640's come into stock. 1 Black and 1 Green. We dismiss the green one and start talking about the black one.
OK so I'm interested and feeling in the buying mood. We chat and explain that I would be trading in the Murci for it so whats the figures? He tells me he'd need to come back to me which is fair enough, but we're talking list +20k for a LP640 Coupe unreg'd apparently.
So get home chat with the missus about it, lights seem at green, and I decide to call him back as I am very interested in talking about figures, and get Tom himself. I now discover the car is a Lambo Brum car which is reg'd so not new as we first thought and he offers me 85k on the spot which is less than a trade bid by 3k that morning. Says they'd retailed a 95k 8000mile Murci a few months back so why would he pay more. What surprises me is that he thinks people will pay 20k over list for these cars, I mean is that the market as I was offerred a brand new specable car for 1st Sept this year from Lambo Ed but declined as it was bad timing and he says he'd have paid 10k over list for the car if he was offerred it. He said you can't get a car this year and I was mis-informed. He also said he's got placed orders for cars so he';s sure he knows the market, which I think is just wrong as that doesn't allow people like me to get a car in a decent timescale direct from the dealer at the proper price!!!!
I mean to me a cars not new when it's reg'd but he kept saying it's a new car but it ain't!!! I don't think I'll be buying a Lambo again at this rate and would be looking to move to either Ferrari or Porsche at this rate as the dealer network hasn't impressed me so far niether has the aftercare of owning a Lambo even using Official dealer networks!!! The only person who I've met that makes me even bother about leaving is Bruce at London and John Cherry at Edinburgh, without these guys I'd have sold it and moved to another marque by now!
TBH I'm pretty
ing annoyed about the whole situation and plan to write a letter to Lamborghini over all this shit as it's getting ridicoulous, you can't get a demo or a flipping car when ya want one, seems pointless!!!

Fortunatley we are not car salesman and therefore we do not need to pay the mortgage from our dealings. We tend to be ruled by our heart and not by our head. Don't let them influence your decision just go around it in a different way. Cheers Graeme.
By the way you have a pm

I fully sympathise with you. Dealers have managed to create a system in which they can sell you a car for a premium and then buy it back in a few years for under book, thus winning at both times! It is a mugs game if you want to be the first kid on the block with the new toy. Just look at what is happening with the Aston Martin V8.
Lots of cash floating around these days Paul so lots of speculators. Expect a big que on any latest & greatest car. If you walk into an Audi dealers with £90K in cash in a Tesco bag for a R8 they will ask you to wait 3 years.
Same problem with Porsche. 997 GT3 and GT3RS all sold and lots of people with deposits paid unhappy as they wont be getting a car. 997 GT2 will be worse. Only 40 coming to the UK in total apparently so they will be going for massive premiums.
I expect the first examples of the F430 CS to comand a £200K price tag when flipped on by the lucky few who get one of the first examples.
If you are seriously looking at a £200K car I would go for a Porsche Carrera GT which are about that level now. Amazing performance and quality and unlikely to lose much in depreciation compared with a LP 640

Its shocking but simple supply and demand. Sounds like the Ferrari market in the US is ten times worse!
What I dont understand is why the manufacturers don't put the prices up so they are more aligned with demand. I.e the first X many cars will be 150% list, next Y many will be 25% premium or something... cut out the speculators. Frustrating that those with the contacts stop the enthusiast, like you Paul, legitimately getting what they want when they want it.

problem with high premiums only with ferraris imo(5-10K for 430)(25-30K FOR 599)...who definately do not flood market with cars...approx 5000 units worldwide...
lambos and porsches maybe have small when models very new,but once around a few months all available at list...
all down to supply and demand..could posibly find new manual 612 scaglietti for 25-30 below list

I'm all confused.
The Green car is identical age and miles to Lambo londons site, and the black car is identical to the one AVS (whatever they are called) are advertising on here and autotrader.
Tom Hartley Advertising both.
Whats that all about.
He probably bought them both as his name can sell at premiumThe Green car is identical age and miles to Lambo londons site, and the black car is identical to the one AVS (whatever they are called) are advertising on here and autotrader.

Romans have a LP640 Roadster in Black , albeit my money would be in a Black Carrera GT
the way cars are priced here is a xxxxing joke right across the board.
last month i decided to buy an aston v8 vantage with the sports-shift box. as it's a new model i couldn't go the second-hand route, i had to buy new.
best i could do in the uk from an aston dealer was 2 grand off list, which came to £91,000 with the options. most of them weren't prepared to knock a penny off the list price.
however, and this is the sick thing, i was offered a brand new RHD UK-spec car from a swiss aston dealer, taxed and delivered to london with a 01/03/08 delivery date for 77k !!!!
that's 14 grand off the price, and this is a car that's made by a british firm here in the UK. how disgusting is that?
as it happens, i dropped the idea of the aston at the last minute and i just bought a continental gt, collect saturday this week; still it makes you wonder.........

Sorry to hear that!
The car industry as a whole really needs a shake up.
But yes we are all mugs cos we take it, year in year out!
Maybe a letter or phone call to Italy?
Good Luck sir!
I speak fluent Italian and used to live in Ravenna next to Modena so I'm sure I can sort this out with a few calls to Guerra a mate of mine over there as I'm totally hacked off with this bullshit we are dished out here and might go for a LHD car as it6 is a bigger market too!!The car industry as a whole really needs a shake up.

You are either in a dealers pocket or paying a premium, I mean whats the flipping point. Today has really made me see how terrible the whole car over 100k buying and selling really is.
I have spoken with 2 CS owners in the last 2 months and the dealers were like lifting 15k out of both deals which is just incredible!!
The thing that pissed me off the most was Tom's terrible attitude on the phone to me today, it was like "I want it at both ends or you can just not get a LP640"
TBH Gary's groundwork has been ruined by Tom's cocky attitude, so thats them off the dealer list from my view. I was so impressed by Clive Sutton if they only had a car I liked I'd go back to them. I really feel they provided the service I expected when spending that amount of money as I'm not a footballer or popstar so want to enjoy the whole experience from buying to selling, Hartleys bawsed that up for me today so screw them!
I am warming to a CGT even more now! If only my missus could remove that image of a MR2 in her head it could be possible!!

cant really blame dealers...they trying to make a living...god knows what the overheads are for fancy showrooms...i would also bet they dont always make what they think they going to make...they allways seem to be well stocked up,with some cars being around for ages...they will get the odd punter who cant be bothered to shop around and buys first car he comes across, but i am sure i am not the only one on this site who thinks they know whats what and what they should be paying.the problem arises with pxs.if you want the easy route..turn up in one car ,drive off in another...you have to pay for the privilege....

Sorry mate, but just don't agree with your statements there, there is offering a good service and am all for that but purely taking the piss by putting cars at way above list and then when ya want to sell them booting ya in the baws is not a fair service if ya ask me or many others on here.I will pay anyone who offers a good service, without a quibble, hell I've done it in the pas lots of times, but I just don't agree with this over list bolloxs, cos if the car was worth that then the importer could charge that!!
A car will sit for ages for several reasosn, it could be cos it's over market price, it could be because it's a story car for want of a better description but lets not forget WE are the customers and it shoudl be on our terms or even equal terms not rolled over a barrel and screwed!!!!!
My apologies if my tone is anyway agressive but my conversations today have given me the right hump!!
