Friday night.
For those of you that are planning to arrive on Friday. We have arranged with a local Indian take away to deliver food to us in the car park around 8pm. So arrive in time to order at about 7pm if you want to have a curry.
Saturday lunch.
As last year we will be having a picnic on Saturday lunchtime. So bring your own food and drink. But don’t spoil yourself for the BBQ at 7pm.
Please note.
At a recent meeting with the Ettington Chase. The management expressed their displeasure at the amount of alcohol being consumed that was not purchased from the hotel. Which is a fair comment as they only get the room cost from those of us that stay there. So if you insist on bringing your own alcohol please be discreet when consuming it.

I would have thought that it is a matter of common and personal decency not to consume your own alcohol on their premises. I'm very surprised that they allow the consumption of food not bought at the hotel within the grounds.
We've all seen the signs "Only food and drink purchased at this public house to be consumed on these premises etc................." I have no doubt that you wouldn't pop in to your local or another pub and take your own booze.
There may also be a legal implication - if a premises sellls you alcohol, they can spot (and they have a responsibilityto see) if you have had too much and then stop serving you. If a customer is served alcohol whilst being or appearing to be intoxicated it is an offence under the Licensing Acts. The premises can be fined, closed or both. The drinker might also be fined. If you are drunk on the premises whilst drinking your own alcohol, I wonder if you are placing the premises and its licence in jeapoardy?
Seems the people at Ettington Chase are very reasonable people indeed and very generous to allow BBWF to do very much its own thing.

Gotta say I agree with WeeMan and JJ on this .. whilst the Ettington Booze prices are not as cheap as Tesco's .. they have been very good in allowing us to have our event here for several year's.
To say they have turned a blind eye is an understatement !
Really looking forward to it now .. just hope the SEAC makes it there and back under it's own power.

You won't get food off them other than the BBQ (sandwiches are available at certain inconvenient times). said:

JJEdited to add - fair play they did do cheap pitchers of lager for us last year

It is also an offence for the Licencee to allow a person who is drunk to remain on the licenced premises, I know that a mockery of this is made pretty much every night in every pub, bar, club etc. but it thus puts the Licencee in a difficult position if he/she and their staff is unable to keep an eye on the customers consumption.
I'm a noob to BBWF and I'm sure that as long as no one takes the p*ss it'll be great.

Not long now!

Thanks KTim. I thought that was the case - about remaining on the premises if you are intoxicated that is. So the corollary here is that if you drink your own and you become intoxicated and you are on licensed premises, you most likely put that licence at risk.
Just as an aside and not specifically related to BBWF, it is often the case that the police just can't bear to do the paperwork for so many offences and especially 'nuisance' offences such as being drunk. The police are just too lazy to do it. That is certainly the casearound here. That is why in so many licensed premises these days you see so many people who are clearly past-it continuing to be served.
I use a local outlet of a well-known national chain from time-to-time, and am often surprised at the condition of customers that continue to get served.

As this is my first BBWF i cannot coment on previous BBWF at this venue, but as i see it if Ettington are good enough to provide us with a facility to meet up and enjoy our cars then respecting there wishes is a small price to pay for a whole load of enjoyment. I am really looking forward to meeting you lot and seeing your cars. Not long now.

As its my first one too, I cannot wait either
Talking of food
I have some awesome chinese curry paste (I've used it for years! proper stuff
), all it needs is cooking in a pan with some boiling water, and makes the best curry sauce in the world....ever!
Would the white horse lend us a pan and would they make this into a sauce so it can go with our chips!?
I'll bring some extra ones if anyone wants some?

I could, but it would need heating, I would even be prepared to mix it if they lent me a ring on their stove! Saves bringing the whole mixture when all I have to do is add water!
....the curry sauce for everyone on the day would be free btw
But if anyone wants the paste to take home its £1.50 a carton

What about expressing their PLEASURE at the amount of alcohol we DO purchase from the hotel? At a recent meeting with the Ettington Chase. The management expressed their displeasure at the amount of alcohol being consumed that was not purchased from the hotel.
I for one spend upwards of 30 quid at the bar (actually, last year that wasn't true because people kept buying me pints ;^) I owe a few rounds this year I think... )
