xbox 360 - cooling fan required?
Discussion
My mate has his on its own shelf with loads of space around it. It's cool. Mine is in an enclosed cupboard with lots of other hot electrical devices and just enough space to get to the disc drawer. It's literally jammed in on 3 sides. Without an additional fan, it was hot enough for my 19 month old to say "ooh hot" and give me a worried look. I've now squeezed in a fan pointed at the intake vent. It's effective, in that the case is now only tepid to the touch, however hot air comes pouring out of the front of the cupboard like you wouldn't believe. When my mother-in-law sat by it, she thought she was having a funny turn.
Given my setup, I am loving the 3 year warranty on RROD.

no.
Just make sure its in an open space and well ventilated and it'll be fine.
The bold on cooling wont help, but even idealy if its a suspect/flawed 360 nothing will stop it breaking apart from luck. Just make sure its in an open space and well ventilated and it'll be fine.
Mines been fine but its a design flaw that may or may not kill it. New ones have hopefully been sorted.
Microsoft has extended the warranty on all 360s due to the heat problem. If it goes just take it back.
