...for my number plate spacing!

cant help but feel if it was on another car it wouldnt have happened.

there are tens of thousands of plates which have had the spacing fiddled with, not forgetting the chav brigade with theirs in italics, coloured screws & all sorts of weird fonts etc etc!

the icing on the cake was after the lecture & being told i will be reported to the dvla, they asked if they could have their picture taken with the car!!!

f*cking joke! needless to say their request was politely declined!

I remember my Dad getting done for "mis-spacing" his plates. He'd bought them form somewhere like Halfrauds and not asked for any special spacing. The police didnt believe him.

The stupid thing was that a) there are much worse offenders to stop (i.e. reg's that even as a fan of registrations, I cant even work out they font is that rubbish!) and b) why would you purposely mis-space a decent plate to read something crappy like 1 3T R Y*

You can infact LOSE your plate.
Remember, the DVLA own all rights to your number plate, you only in effect lease it. If you break the DVLA's terms, which includes spacing issues they can take it off you.

It happended to a guy on the TVR forum. He was pulled over in Brighton, reported and DVLA took the plate off him.

Not taking sides one way or the other but I would just point out that Automatic Number Plate Recognition is a very important aspect of security in these troubled times and mis spacing, invalid fonts and other forms of personalising number plates can reduce the abilty to be alerted to or to track suspect vehicles and occupants.

No my comment was for everyone that drives a car irrespective of the type of car they have, if someone feels the need to personalise their plate then fine it's just that plates are there for a reason and there are laws that state how they should be displayed, as I say if someone wants to break the law ( albeit one that most think is pretty trivial ) then you have to be prepared for the consequences. One interesting point seems to be that in most of Europe the modifying of plates just doesn't happen.

i understand legislation is due (over there), whereby two "tugs" for plate abuse, and you lose your plate and the same vehicle is issued with a "Q" reg. number.

My wife got fined for having a yellow screw through the l on her plate to make it look like an i. I think it was a £40 on the spot fine. It scared her shitless she thought she was gonna go to jail.

I bought my missus a plate for her birthday a few months ago and fiddled the spacing a bit aka "L5NN P"

Within a week the plod had stopped her and were downright nasty and rude having virtually reduced her to tears. They sent her off with a £30 fine and told her if she was spotted with the same plates she'd be reported straight to the DVLA with a hefty fine and loss of the plate being the result.

They also said that they were having a crackdown on mis-spaced plates so I can only assume they've cottoned onto a new income stream since I see dozens of mis-spaced plates around Aberdeen every day !

Nice to know they are concentrating on the important things....! I cant leave my Fezza parked in the street or in town cause some little toe-rag will vandelise it and get off scott free, but the rozza's choose to have a clamp down on mis-spaced number plates!?!?!?.

Thanks boys.....pity she hadnt remembered that her uncle is Chief Inspector of the bordering region whilst you were busy reducing her to tears....

It seems the DVLA are willing to sell plates knowing that they are only worth the money they sell them for if you change them a little bit. The police then get money out of you for a fine, plate taken off you so they can sell it again.
Also, the change on this plate and quite a few i have seen does not stop the ANPR systems picking it up - get charged for congestion everytime i go to london. Who is going to be out on a crime spree in a lambo with a private reg! and if they are, its probably a lot easier to spot than "a blue car with a reg something like wx51opv or it might have been opu, or maybe pov.. hmm

Depends what you consider crime but I would think most lambos go over the speed limit from time time and that could be considered a 'crime spree'. In the UK at least....
