Missing double white lines question
Discussion
This is just (mostly) hypothetical, but.....
There's a village near me that's just had a layer of tar and chippings put down to "repair" the road.... so for about a week now, there have been no road markings. Normally there's double solid white lines through the village - where would you stand if you overtook while they were missing?
There's no clue if you don't know the road, and I said "mostly" hypothetical as I have been overtaken by an idiot when the lines were there as he wasn't prepared to stick to 30mph
So I guess this may happen more under the current circumstances. The double whites are well justified with 2 unsighted junctions followed by a roundabout with very poor visibilty as regards a car joining the main road (from one side in particular - ie if overtaking on the main road, a car that you had no way of seeing would suddenly be heading towards you from the 3 o'clock roundabout exit).

I'm just kinda suprised that as it's a set of lines with a reasonable purpose, there's not been any temperary "no overtaking" signs or anything (except for "WORKFORCE IN MIDDLE OF ROAD" when it should actually say "WORKFORCE HAVING A NICE BREW IN FOX'S DINER"
)

Surely the offence is contravening the TRO that requires and allows the placing the DWLs. If no DWLs, however, then no offence possible.
HA/LA commit an offence by not properly signing a statutory restriction.
DWL do not require a TRO - they have effect whenever they are painted, and no effect when they are not - not the same as yellow lines etc which DO require TRO. HA/LA commit an offence by not properly signing a statutory restriction.
Traffic Signs Manual and Traffic Signs Regs and Gen Directions set out when DWL should be used, based on measurements of forward visibility.
No offence by LA though - you can't paint newly surfaced roads because the thermoplastic won't stick till the volatiles in the new road binders have at least partly evaporated. They might be in bother if the lines weren't relaid in a few days and there was an accident as a consequence.

You're right, I just checked. No order needed.tvrgit said:

I think that's laid out in the DfT circular rather than TSRGD.7db said:
