Michelin Pilot sport 2s
Discussion
Hi guys,
I want to put some of these on my GT2. The ones recommended to me by Porsche are Pilot Sport PS2 XL. Just trying to find what is a reasonable price to pay. My sizes are 235/35 R19 and 315/25 R19. I looked briefly on the web and found things like this:
Summer tyres Pilot SPORT PS2
315/25 R19 98Y EL Rim-protection
and
Summer tyres Pilot SPORT PS2
235/35 ZR19 87Y Rim-protection, RRBL, ,, N1
These are not the XLs though? Is there a big difference? I am not sure what all the letters stand for? XL = extra load? 98Y - whats that? These tyres were about £270 delivered and the fronts were £197. The last thing I want to do is get the tyres wrong, first quote I have had is £1285 for the XLs, but these on the web are £936 which makes me concerned that they are not as good as the XLs, or is the quote of £1285 just way over the odds?
Amusingly Porsche quoted me around £1500 for the XLs!
Any advise would be appreciated
Cheers

I went to Bracknell T&B last month for PS2s on my 996TT and paid:
Front (225/40/18) - £106 + VAT each
Rear (295/35/18) - £183 + VAT each
No idea about what the XL denotes I'm afraid...but the guy at Bracknell was very Porsche knowledgeable (could tell what type of car by the tyres I asked him to quote on) and can probably help - 01344 411323

thats amazingly cheaper! I just called them and am waiting for a call back and a quote. I assume you guys were happy with the fitting service? I have had wheels chipped before and it really p*sses me off! Mine have no marks on at the moment so want to keep them that way!
Hay Dave,Not sure if they are the same size tyre used on the 997 GT3 but i have a set of PS2's in my garden as i bought them for when i wasnt having the car on track. Im selling the car with track tyres on and the garage isnt going to want the PS2's. They have done 2500 miles so if they are the right size make me an offer i need to get rid of them. Im in sw london maybe to far?

I made clear that the wheels were unchipped and pointed out the one minor kerb mark I did have. The fitter was the one who acknowledged the PCCBs and warned his mate to steer well clear of them when working with the wheels. As a result I got a quick and efficient tyre change and was more than happy with their work - 4 new tyres for £679 all in :-)CraigBruce said:
