Newbury has been hit heavily with rain & bad flooding. Several roads are impassable, the M4 is shut due to a landslide.

Vodaphone have evacuated after their lake burst and flodded their building.

Jet stream move south, holding all the good weather to the south and we have the rubbish crap left. Its the same in Canada and North America. Canada are have a cold damp Summer while the US are having heatwaves to the west and wet weather to the east.

From what I gather having read a few reports, it'll be those affected who will receive sky high premiums, whilst others affected will be denied insurance altogether. I think there will be a backlash on insurance companies if they offset their losses against people who haven't claimed.

There will be some insurers who haven't been hit and therefore won't need to recover. They could clean-up if their prices are better than those who are recouping costs, which in turn would force even those insurers to "get real".

You're only hurting yourself by not being insured. It's still cheap when you consider how much in value you are insuring.

Totally agree, and WTF should the govt' pay out for plebs' who weren't insured? If that's going to happen then maybe they should all pay for our our cars to be repaired if we have an uninsured accident.

No, it's because we don't drive enough big engines.

The UK is the only country where the propaganda about Global Warming is working, and everyone is unplugging their Sky box, their phone chargers etc and driving around in silly little cars.

In Europe they don't care, they drive around in 2CVs and those funny corrugated iron vans which belch out smoke, and they have good weather.

China - lots of pollution - good weather.
USA - lots of big engines - good weather.
Here - all hand-wringing and worried and cutting down on carbon footprints - crap weather.

We need MORE emissions, so we'll get good weather like everywhere else!

Andy.

Not sure thats in any way true. Insurance is just legalised gambling. Enforced if you're talking about third party car but not related to houses. Its a simple sum at the end of the day, the answer 'usually' is that if you have the money to replace whatever damage then you are better off long term without insurance. Same is true for car insurance warranties etc.

Its true what you say about the market forces driving insurance premiums, but the simple fact is that the bill is now very large, and I don't see insurance companies pricing themselves out of the sky high areas any more than I see then wanting to lose their current custom. Hence I see a global rise and a targetted rise. Its what I'd do if I was them. Which is why I'll vote with my feet.

China - lots of pollution - good weather.

I don't know which part of China you are referring to, but the weather in China, is bloody awful, not helped by the extreme pollution in most cities and towns. And if that doesn't get you the earthquakes and terrible driving conditions probably will!!

I thought the video was very good.

Quick update - just got power back at home.

Drove the Cerbera home although it took a little juggling to get out of Newbury. Many roads were flooded, the bypass was jammed solid as the new underpass under the motorway was flooded as the pumping station packed up. This caused the whole of the Newbury area to get jammed. It didn't help they restricted the M4 junc 13 to 14 to one lane because of a landslide.

So I went cross country, travvessed a few lightly flooded areas, which the cerber went through fine. The worse caused a little spillage through the door sills on the drivers side, but I drove very slowly throught that one.

Made it cross country to Swindon Junc 15 which was jammed solid up the A419. Took 45 mins to get to the motorway (about 1/2 mile) as every other road was jammed and that was moving slightly.

Seems everyone took runups at the water and came a cropper, so abandoned cars everywhere. 95 mins to get home in the end - the Cerbera was brilliant.

Got home to discover we had no power and it only returned earlier today.

Had to return to work last night as the emergency generator had arrived. Went on the motorbike and fell foul of the police stopping traffic on the M4 by Newbury as the tarmac banding had lifted for about 3 miles. A crew was pulling it off the road.

The cerbera is now in the garage, mats stripped out the drivers side with a fan heater drying it out.
