Picture the scene:

Early evening in Tintwhistle, A628 towards Manchester.
Driving along in 30mph zone but for a moment my attention wandered to roadside hazards, pedestrians, other cars and my speed crept up to 34-35mph

Children were flung like ragdolls from the front of my van as I drove at this insane speed

Lo and behold a white transit with the blood-curdling words "Shafety Camera Van" on the side. Back doors shut but ominous black one-way glass probably hiding gun toting tax collectors.

Road Angel sadly no good in this situation (I had just updated it).

I would guess its a fine and points on a 30 year clean licenece even at this lethal speed.

I have decided to become a numpty - its the only way

My understanding of the ACPO guidelines on tolerances over the posted speed limit is 10% +2, eg. in a 30 limit you are unlikely to get done unless you were travelling at over 35mph.

I say "unlikely" as implementation of the ACPO guidelines appears to vary from force to force dependant upon the particular Chief Constables/Head of Traffic's view on speed limits being broken.

Hopefully, given an indicated 34-35, as Rob says, your true speed was probably nearer 32, you should be OK.
