I'm in the planning stages of restoring my 1982 Mk1 Golf GTi (1982).

The body work has seen better days & the car needs a complete ground up restore.

I was planning on getting the empty shell shot blasted by a local firm, however, my father-in-law (an MG enthusiast) has suggest I get the shell acid dipped instead as it works better & is less damaging (apparently popular in the States?).

Does anyone have any views, or know anywhere (ideally in the South) that does dipping ?

Thanks in advance

Just come accross these guys : http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/

Looks like a good solution - time to ring up for a quote (I've been quoted £400 for shot blasting & painting with primer afterwards)

I'd second that......

IIRC, this is the Porsche factory approved process, covering all models virgin to historic.

SPL wanted approx £700 to dip my shell ( BMW E30 M3 ) and another £700 to e-coat the car. A guy on one of the E30 M3 forums has just delivered his shell their for this process. Turnaround time is approx 14 days, so I'm waiting to hear what he thinks.
