Received a letter for interview for custody assistant at my local cop shop. anyone in the know could they give me a few pointers, tips etc for the interview?

Currently working as a Prisoner Custody Officer at a privately run prison, so used to dealing with prisoners, control and restraaint, shift work etc etc.

Any help would be muchly appreciated as this job means a hell of a lot to me.

You sound like you have good experience that will help.

Our force have a work related test where a 'Mr Angry' rings up enquiring about someone in custody. It tests your phone manner under pressure and attention to detail ( he will mention medication wink ).

You will probably be interviewed by an experienced custody assistant/ custody Sgt. BE YOURSELF. They will not be inpressed by bullsh*t/war stories !
Wear a suit.

edit to add: IT skills may be asked about. NSPIS custody, livescan print etc etc. It's not rocket science but it pays to be aware.

Good Luck.

Thanks for that. I shall do some research. Familiar with the prison IT systems - LIDS and IMS, have had experience with the biometric fingerprinting, some of the paperwork, welfare checks, suicide and self harm checks etc, shall be wearing a suit no question.

Make note of the Data Protection Act Too!
Show an appreciation for being careful about what info you give out over the phone etc
I work for police and this is drummed into us.
Overall security issues and safety of everyone also plays a part.
Show the ability to follow procedures too.
But .... be yourself.
