Hi all,

I'm picking up a 2002 996 from RSJ this week smile I've lasted 6 months without a 911, not bad.

The car has PCM 1, not the most up to date piece of kit (and looks really old with the tape slot) but seeing as it's there I'm going to try and use it rather than upgrade it. I've heard that the phone module only works with certain uk networks, is this true? If so which ones work well with it? Also, can you get updated map CDs for it?

Thanks,
Gavin

I've a 'pay-as-you-go' vodafone card in my 2001 PCM1 - it works a treat. Just divert the number on my mobile before driving.

Ahhh, good thinking. Cheers for the replies.

It's the midnight blue C4 with aerokit that used to belong to another PH member smile

The PCM1 is pretty dated but does a reasonable job. Vodafone or 02 for the sim card, I could neve be bothered diverting so I got a porsche related one then went ebay crazy and bought all the porsche ones I could find. They're in the classifieds somewhere if you want one.

good on you! Joel has had that car hanging around for a while and for the life of me I couldnt understand why as its a fantastic bit of kit that was well maintained by said PH member.

Enjoy thumbup

Yep, and that was reflected in the price, RSJ didn't exactly make a fortune on it so cheers Joel smile

It's a great looking car, the pictures didn't do it justice. Not sure why it didn't sell quicker, the mileage is higher than the average 996 but the history is all OPC and the car looks well looked after. It was in the workshop when I looked at it so got to look underneath, a few scuffs but nothing worth worrying about. Finding out it was a PH car made it easier to buy biggrin

Should be picking it up on Thursday if all goes well at the OPC 111 point check.

Hi, I have a multi-sim on vodafone, meaning that you just leave one sim in the car permanantly. I believe only Vodafone offer this. I could be wrong.

However, I find the PCM1 very tempremental. Some days it's fine and the other person can hear you ok, and other days it's terrible and the other person cannot hear anything but interference. There doesn't seem to be any way of knowing when it will be good or not.

I lot of PCM1 owners have had a car kit professionally installed. I manage, but it's not fantastic.
