still having megasquirt problems!!!!
Discussion
hi folks,
as you guessed, i'm still having problems wit this megasquirt, every thing seems to be wired in correct, all the sensors seem to be reading correct on my lap top, but i just cant get it to fire up!
i'm only trying to connect the fuel up for the moment , so i'm still using the dizzy, i've tested the spark and its fine so the timing is still fine. i just cant get the injectors to open.
does any one know how i can test the wires at the ecu to see if there are any pulses coming to it to trigger them, or does any one know of any settings i might have wrong in the ecu to stop it squirting.
as always, all help is greatly appreciated.
cheers,
adam.

Stick a led across the injector connector to see if they are being fired. I would start checking that the static 12v is reaching the injs first, then put the lamp on & see if there is a pulse (ecu flicking negative) when the engine is fired. I thought MS had a mechanism to test fire injectors BTW.

i have already put a injector tester bulb in an injector plug and nothing.Dave
what do you mean by put a lamp on? how do i do this?
i did not know the MS had a mechanism to test fire injectors, I'll try and find out more about this.
cheers,
Adam.
Adam have you tried talking to phil that does the ms system? he is a dead friendly guy that always time for you?, i must admit i have fitted quite a few of these systems and never had problems with the actual system itself it is normally my wiring!! i am sure you have his contact details but if not it is extraefi.co.uk

there are many advantages of running a megasquirt, you do get better response from your engine, you can use coil packs instead of a distrubter, you dont get the lumpyness at low rpm, but the main reason i'm using one is cos they use a MAP sensor instead of an air flow meter and i need this for the instalation for my turbo.v8 racing said:

thanks v. much for that.i'll have a look and hopefully get it sorted. do you know where i can download a base map for a 4ltr?
cheers,
adam.
The live side of the inj should be positive when the ign is switched on - you can test this against any ground. When the engine is spinning the ecu should provide an intermittent ground (which opens the inj). I think they are the main 3 things that affect inj opening (duration is another matter). If there is a test method in the ecu (maybe another type of ecu I've looked at?) you are not dependent upon the revs, you can just ping it from your computer.

Any of the alternative ecu's are an advantage over the original Lucas system. You can do away with the AFM,which is a restriction, even on the smallest engines, and you can map the ignition, giving more mid range torque and better response.Once fitted, mapping emeralds, omex etc,is a hell of a lot cheaper than getting your Lucas mapped too!!Try Mtech for the Megasquirt problem... www.mtechautomotive ...

Post it under Projects, as they could do with some V8 beef

Hi.. This response is of no use now as I am on leave in Austria and will be at the Griff Growl next weekend..... but .. I live in Sydney and have just finished building and testing a MS-II V3.. so I'm really pleased to meet another MS'd TVR.
I have built a mini engine for my testing.. and have plugged the MS and loom into my Griff.... however have't yet had the testicles to turn it on...that comes next.
One thing I found is that with the req_fuel for the std injectors (185cc/min), my injector duty cycle was at 90% at abt 4000 rpm. This does confuse me as I'd need to run a really weak req_fuel to get anywhere near 90% dutycycle and 5500 rpm.
So, the question would be with req_fuel and any ASE/WUE would you be running too rich at startup?
If you are running MSII V3, I'd be happy to look at yr msq file.. however I'm no expert but may see something. I will be doing fuel only.. spark comes later.

Another thought.
With the std 14CUX, it grounds both the fuel pump relay and the injector relay. Look into the bible.. you'll see a pin from the injector relay being grounded in the 14CUX. I don't have the pin numbers with me..
The MS by default only does the Fuel relay, leaving the Injector relay unpicked.
What I have done is use the F-IDLE ping on DB37 pin 30 to ground the Inj supply relay. I have, in megatune 2.25 in the Port settings, set PM2-fidle to be 1 when the battery voltage is over +5v. This ensures that as soon as MS is powered on, the injector relay pics
This could be why you have no injector power...

I've just finished my MS assembly too..! Be good to swap notes at the Growl.. might start to make sense over a couple of Hi..
