WTF.

I am 37, seven years NCD. No accidents or convictions in last five years. Locked up overnight in a CCTV patrolled garage underground.

996 Carrera - 2k per annum with Chubb Masterpiece.

AFAIK most of us in London are screwed when it comes to insurance. Area risk is set from 1-60 and I think just about all of London falls in the 45-60 area i.e. high risk.

I am happy to be corrected by someone who really knows, but I think just by living in my parents postcode, my insurance would be roughly cut in half as they live in the middle of nowhere even if the car was parked on the street.

Don't necessarily agree! I paid £800 premium for a Ferrari F355, 32yrs old, max NCD, 9 points on my licence for speeding (!!!) London postcode. Car caught fire and was written off. I got an extremely fair settlement offer, with no fuss, and settled extremely quickly. Insurer was Liverpool Victoria.

Edited to add: Even after a huge total loss claim, on top of the points on my licence, I only paid £1100 premium for my 993 Turbo. 2k sounds an awful lot for your risk Vesuvius!!

Renewal time is coming so I got lots of quotes from moneysupermarket. Bell were the cheapest at £830. However, following the links to their site, the price jumped up to nearly £1400. I'll be staying with Directline I think.

It depends on what level of cover you want from your insurance. Chubb has comprehensive cover for any driver on the insured car and the insured drivers are comprehensively covered for any car lent to them. It also provides agreed market value upfront for the car, your own choice of repairers if it gets pranged, unlimited mileage and a few other things.

Having said that, my Chubb quote is lower than Vesuvius' £2k and the next insurance quote is 25% cheaper. if you value all those, then it's a difference worth paying. and one of the big tests will only be when you claim, which hopefully remains a remote event.

Agreed. I pay top whack for Chubb. But as you say gives me agreed value (no GAP insurance required), fully comprehensive on any vehicle I borrow, full europe cover, etc etc etc. Amazing value for money AFAIAC.

It all really depends on when you call, all expensive car insurance seems to be under written, and the underwriter will take into account driving experience, mine was cut cos I owned TVRs and 911s before,it was also cheaper to have my wife added, cos apparently when she drives it she will take more care, they said it!! Also you cant get a proper quote on line cos of any varients ie mods to car, awkward to explain accidents etc, these things need to be explained to a person not a digital form...Any way 2K....thats lots.

I was told that next year my premium will be a lot cheaper after owning the 911 for that time, having the M3 previously helped too.

I used to be with Bell - actually I used to work for the group that owned them - they insured me on my first Porsche - they were very competitive.

They are owned by Admiral and both brands are trying to become associated with prestige cars at the moment - could explain the reasonable quotes people are getting. Insurance is insurance - as long as they are part of the ABI I wouldn`t lose sleep over it - just because its cheap, it doesn`t mean you are compromising cover. A lot of people load up their policies with things like legal cover, car hire etc ...complete waste of money. I`m with Tesco these days and have been for some time.

Insurance quotes are strange things..I went from a Boxster 2.7 to a 355 when I was 26 - and the premium went down from £650 to £625 ... and I still can`t figure that one out .. but then I came to my senses and went back to a Boxster S ... it was faster.. and the premium went up to £750 !

I insured with them in January on my C4S for just over £600.FNC & Clean Lic
Expected a rise when changing to 997 C2S last week but was a little suprised with extra £245 for remaining 5 months.
In real money that works out to over £1100 per year.
Asked would they quote me as a new customer, they would'nt do this as I already had cover with them.
Asked twice if this was due to admin charges and on both occasions was told that we don't charge for admin. Thats nice of themconfused
Any bet that come Renewal date that there back down to being the front runner at around £700-£800.
In many other business sectors there's a name for this.!!

Thats not very nice now is it? ("wtf&quotwink
Theres variables you don't know about (kw postcode next to no cars stolen - ever!), garaged, other 2 drivers police officers (definately reduces costswink ) and as people have said on here there perfectly happy with bell as they're the performance/prestige section of admiral who have a pretty decent record. What you put your johnson in is upto you though lol!
