Something strange has started popping up on my computer. Its a symantec antivirus window which wnats to install a network program or something. Now im not on a network and it says it cant find a .msi file that is needed, so i cancel and it goes away, or sometimes appears a second time before giving up. This will happen when i click 'Empty recycle bin', then it started poping up when i press the delete key to remove a file, now its appearing when i right click on icons. What could be causing this and how do i get rid of it?

I'm not an expert but it sounds like to me that Norton Anti-Virus has tried to install an update but can't because either the Windows Installer (.msi, formerly called Microsoft Installer) is damaged or not up to date. Go to "Change or Remove Programs" and check to see if you have Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) and if not visit Microsoft downloads and get it.

Here is a good FAQ's page for MSI and it has a link to get the latest version of Windows Installer so you don't have to try and wade through the Microsoft Website.

Hope I'm right and this works for you.

Yes, you should be able to, but first have a look at the Norton Internet Security "Activity Logs" under "Error Messages" and see if it gives you a clue as to what might be happening.

What version of Norton are you running? I've got 2007 Internet Security and have had nothing like this.

It is: 'Symantec AntiVirus' V10.0.0.359

I've tried Live Update to no avail

The event log shows no activity like this

Get the problem "window" to pop up and get any error code from it, go to the Symantec Website and do a search for that error code. Maybe you'll find a solution. You can also try Google- Symatec AntiVirus, and add the error code.

I've had every version of Norton Anti-Virus from 2003 to 2007 but am not familiar with the Corperate versions, we need someone who works in IT..smile

Got it sorted by googling it and finding another forum with the solution on, basically ive removed it from a Windows Installer list so it wont have anything to do with it again.
