Drive both and then decide for yourself. I prefer a tin top sports car so Cayman S it was for me. I kept with sports options when ordering: Sports seats, PASM, Sports Chrono along with auto dimming mirrors, rear wiper (absolute necessity in my opinion) and BOSE system. Car suits me down to the ground as can get two full sets of golf clubs in travel bags in back, two big weekend bags in front and then travel in comfort in cabin.
Don't be swayed by what folk on here say, make your own mind up.

I'm in the same boat and have been looking at Cayman S's for a month or so.
I'm looking at a low mileage second hand model and most of the sensibly specced models seem to have the following:
Automatic climate control
Bose or uprated stereo
19 inch wheels
Not many I have seen (at sensible money) have PASM or Sports Chrono package and only a couple I have seen have PCCB.
Coming from a Lotus Exige I'm not used to lots of gadgets so all I am looking for is the automantic climate control and the uprated stereo. 19 inch wheels would be nice but not essential as I like the standard 18 inch rims.

PCCB was specced on many demo cars but hardly by customers. They are OTT for a Cayman as the steels are great and the extra money for ceramics is in no relation to the overall value of the carAgree on the PCCB.
The Cayman is a more focussed driving machine than the Boxster, though we are talking relative superlatives here. There is more headroom and sense of space generally in the Cayman.
Options in order of necessity (IMHO):-
Sports Seats
Auto Climate Control
Full leather
Baggage net, without which your luggage will go through the back screen
PASM
Sport Chrono Package Plus
Bi-Xenon
PCM (Sat Nav)
Rear Parking sensors
Sports Exhaust
Multi function Steering wheel
I would sit out until you find a second hand unit that meets your requirements, unless you can really afford a new one, in which case I wouldn't have one without all of the above.

Ok, I have a boxster and think that both have their relative merits... However the spec I would go for on Boxster or Cayman would be in order of preference:
PSE (have it - lovely)
Auto climate (don't have it - very annoying!)
Xenons (excellent)
Bose (very good)
19s (just think they look better)
Heated seats (perhaps more important in a soft top)
Nav (couldn't live without it now)
Full Leather (just makes the dash look and feel nicer)
Parking (useful)

Do you really think so? To me this is more Porsche marketing ambition than anything else. The current Boxster S even lapped Hockenheim and the Ring faster than the comparable Cayman S. Don't get me wrong, I was hugely impressed by the Cayman S but so was I with the Boxster S. To me the Cayman is just not worth the massive premium.Dr S said:

They are OTT for a Cayman as the steels are great and the extra money for ceramics is in no relation to the overall value of the carYes, they are a dis-proportionately high cost option on a Cayman, so most people would dismiss them. And I'm not advocating that the poster should spec them.
However, the benefits would be fantastic. I regularly drive a 997GT3 with pccbs and a 987'S' with steels, back to back, and I just know that a Boxster/Cayman with pccbs really would be an awesome prospect. I'm convinced that the additional braking performance and the unsprung weight saving would be worth the investment (not to mention the lack of corrosion and brake dust).
Was going to buy one and my 'must haves' were, but never found one!
1) Full Leather.
2) Auto Air-con.
3) Cruise Control. (Depends on your useage)
4) Sports Steering Wheel. (Regular one too thin, as is the multi-function wheel)
5) Park Assist.
6) Electric / Heated Seats.
7) Short shifter*. *-Can be retro-fitted.
8) Bi-xenons.
9) Nice big wheels.
PASM would be a bonus as would PCM on the used market.

Have you seen some of the threads about PCCB's? So far as the short shifter is concerned, the shifts are getting shorter anyway.

At the risk of sounding like an absolute g&yer, don't forget the rear windscreen wiper
FWIW I don't have one of these on my Cayman and in 8 months havn't missed it.

Interesting Blog and probably all correct except maybe the colour. Colour can make or break a car. Based on your theroyof buying what you want, if pink was a free option and you wanted it I suspect you may have problems selling it
Like it or not grey or any derivative of grey seems to be the in colour and should you need to sell quickly would sell quicker than white. Now ok you pay less for white but the benefit is soon lost if the white car take 2-3 months more to sell then the grey one

Its horses for courses: I think I gave my reason, but mainly I wonder why anyone buys an indivudual car that's the same as all the others just because the person who might buy it from you may prefer grey? I'm no fan of pink, but if Maritime Blue was a std colour I'd have it like a shot!
