Help needed as have had a court summonds for speeding
Discussion
Any help with the below is much appreciated
I was court for speeding on the 2nd February 2007, pulled over by an unmarked car doing 71 in a 50.
It was a completely fair cop as I did not see the sign and realise it had been changed from 70 to 50. I went to produce my licence at the station and hand it in to be endorsed I was told that I could hold onto my licence and go on a "speed awareness course". I do a lot of miles each year and as it was my first offence I though it sounded like a good idea.
I sent of the cheque for the fine (which has been cashed) but then received a letter saying that this course was not operated by the force that issued the ticket and I would need to send my licence to them. I was unable to send my licence to them straight away as the bank had it due to a suspected ID theft but it was sent to the police at the given address about 3 weeks latter.
I have since heard nothing and to be honest forgot all about them still having my licence but last week I received a court summands for failure to produce. I wrote to the chief constable last week explaining the situation (sent recorded delivery) but have heard nothing from this letter or anything else telling me they had not received my licence.
I and supposed to surrender my licence to the court 3 days before the hearing but I don’t have it, I am now worried that I will receive more points and a fine, but I believe that I have complied and this is not my fault.
Can anyone offer any help or advice??
Thanks in advance

When you say you send licence to police three week later (once bank finished with it?) - did you send recorded or special delivery or take in yourself (I would have requested written receipt if handing over anything which give my identity especially as you victim of suspect identity theft.)
Produce all the data relating to this as well. Get solicitor on this case too. Get together any proof - letter accompanying licence sent to police station three week later, any proof of posting you have on this too.
Get a take from pepipoo/CAB - shop around solicitors. Some do offer free initial advice before you decide to employ them
Hope being helpful. Good Luck.

Just to clarify, this will be my fist time in court as when I committed the offence all I had to do was produce at the police station (which I did) the police station told me to keep my licence and go on a course. When the police decided that I could not go on the course I sent my licence off to them and that is where it has been ever sense.
I should have sent in recorded delivery but at the time did not give it a thought. I then heard nothing from the police until now when they sent me a summands !
I should have chased up my licence but forgot all about it as I have not needed it

Speed Awareness course for 21 mph over the limit is more than a little optimistic. I'm sure what you're saying is right, but I think you may have been given the runaround or not completely understood what was being discussed.
As far as I know, there's no endorsement for a course, just a cost and a little time spent learning about speed.
Something a little off with this one
