Hello all,

The expected has happened... I went out yesterday morning and had the side-lights on - unfortunately I forgot to turn them off when I got back. I've gone out this evening and the car is dead. I'm thinking I'll charge the battery for starters but as the car lives on the street this will mean removing the battery. As this is the case I may actually replace it if needs be but I'll try a full charge first. Anyway, I have a few questions before doing this:

1) Is there a way of using the key to get in or do a have to break in?

2) Also, after reading the bible it sounds like I'll need to jack the car up to access the bolts holding the battery in place. The jack is in the boot so how can I get to it without any power?

3) Assuming I can't use the key, I think I know how to get into the car but will the alarm go off if I break in? Is there a way for me to turn this off? I'm obviously aware this is a public forum so please email me if you don't think posting a reply to this is appropriate.

4) Is there anything I need to know before removing the battery? I know I'll need to re-enter the radio code but is there anything else to watch out for?

4) If I do decide to replace the battery, are there any recommendations on what to get and where to get it from?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

James

I am not an expert in this field but if anyone can correct this "fill ya boots"
1) I would assume the key would unlock the door without a problem, but obviously you would not have central locking

2)Once you get into the car by whatever means, my advice would be to either get a jump from another car battery/booster pack so you can get the boot open.

3)Your alarm wont go off if you have a flat battery!

4)Before disconnecting battery, make sure a window is down or you have the roof off, cos when you reconnect a charged battery your central locking will probably lock the car again and the alarm/immobiliser will arm itself, this eliminates going back to square one with locked doors and the possibility of your keys inside the car!

4 again) IIRC the battery is a standard land/range rover part, if you search these forums, you can find out the correct cranking amp battery required.

1) depends on if you have locks with keyholes or not, some of the older ones IIRC did. Mine doesn't so had to use the mystic horsemans word to get in (phone your dealer and they'll tell you the secret, don't want to post it on the forum)

2) You don't need to jack the car up, they're easily accessible though my be hidden with sealant (don't forget to seal them when you refit to stop water getting in). 13m Socket is what you'll need

3) As mentioned, no battery, no alarm!

4) Gettting the battery back is a pain - draw a line along the floor in front of the battery box to help line it back up when refitting - getting those bolt holes realigned is a PITA.

4) Get one from any battery seller, nothing unusual about it.
