Interesting. Does it make any difference to running temps or rate of temperature rise?
the scoop is designed to help air into the air intake system,as it sits below the air filter as shown in the picture, not the radiator.

The reason I was asking is that I think there will be good gains made from keeping the inlet temp as low as is possible and the scoop makes a lot of sense to me.
When I was working in R&D we cocked up and got an inlet hose pointing straight at an exhaust leading to an exponential temperature rise and self combustion
It might be interesting to see if the scoop effects how long the engine takes to reach running temp or if it ends up running fractionally cooler and hence gains a few extra HP.I`ll bring the note pad and tape measure to the growl, and rockingham as well, if any of you chaps are happy to let me have a good look at your car then yes I will get some made up.If I can get this done at rockingham, then I will have them ready for the growl

We haven't done all the measurements for working out what the rad is doing yet. (See my last post on this thread) Any effect on lost airflow through the rad ought to show up as an increase in average temperatures.
I don't expect the scoop will make a difference to rad airflow at all for 2 reasons:
1. The majority of cooling air comes from the underside, well away from where the scoop is.
2. There is (on most Griffs, unless like me you have put foam strips round the rad to seal it) a gap between the air box and the rad, so any air will spill through there in preference to doing "work" passing through the core.
(If I wanted to optimise flow through the rad, then I'd start on sorting out the exit from the rad - right now this looks to be considerably smaller than the intake side, which is the wrong way round...)

Clive were you able to measure the differential on airflow through the rad, or getting to the rad?
O.T. I fitted Fibreon's lip spoiler to the underside last week and my Trackday running temp seemed to be considerably lower.
But was your time any better O.T. I fitted Fibreon's lip spoiler to the underside last week and my Trackday running temp seemed to be considerably lower.

Hamish correct me if i am wrong but i think the point of Clive's air intake scoop is to create a ram air effect into the air filter box not to reduce the temperature of the rad or the engine operating temp.
Since i fitted the scoop i have not noticed any difference to the under bonnet Temp both on the gauge and by lifting the bonnet.
Judging by the results Clive and Bladey have posted on the V8E site it has confirmed my suspicion that for the price it was well worth the money and may be worth a HP or two. ( Hence the track time comment )
Hamish, if the under bonnet temp of your Griff gives you so much cause for concern why not short out the otter switch and run your fans on a permanent basis

I`ve had a scoop on my car for 5 months now, and during a tour of scotland covering nearly 2700 miles noticed no difference in engine temperatures at all, and can`t see why the scoop should affect this at all when you look at the size and position of the scoop, and consider that the incoming air to go to the rad comes from underneath the front of the car.
If you are concerned about engine temps and radiator cooling perhaps the best thing here would be to have a smaller number plate as well?
out of interest, just how good are your track times then Hamish
