Death of a wiper motor, in pictures
Discussion
I've been promising this so here it is.
Wipers were playing up. Blew 20A fuse which also powers the steering column control box. Needed new wiper motor and steering box. This is what I discovered after investigation. If your wipers show the slightest problem take a look, it will save you time and money.
My motor was about to short on three fronts:
Firstly, the windings and commutator were fried.

Secondly the brushplate was fried.

Thirdly, the lid of the park switch had burst open and the contacts had popped out of their slots. I'm sure this was the killer fault.

I've now put a line of glue along the lid of the new park switch which looks line this:

Things to look out for.
a) The rust line in the gearbox housing suggests it was acting as a water tank for a while.

b) Rust inside magnet housing and motor end plate would not have helped.

c) Don't be tempted to buy some of the replacement that I've seen advertised, they look close but are completely different. The bigger gearbox is correct.

d) Finally, given the state of the whole assembly, the park switch contacts were actually in quite good shape.

Hope this helps anyone with wiper motor questions.
