Pealed back leather on windscreen demist strip

Has anyone renovated/replaced the leather strip where the windscreen vents are? Mine has pealed right back and has gone very stiff. Upon closer inspection its the foam onto which the leather is stick that has come unstuck and has gone dry/brittle. I have treated the leather with renovating nurishing auto glym stuff and am going to moisten the foam to see if it comes back to life. If this doesn't work, then I'll have to remove the foam and maybe replace the leather. Does anyone have experience or advice on this?
