Oil Pressure Sender Unit
Discussion
Have you had a close look at the sender?
Mine had the same symptoms you describe and it was the sender. I replaced the unit as it went just before I set off for Le Mans last year but I reckon with a bit of patience I could have fixed it.
On top of the sender is the post you mentioned - is the post itself firmly fixed (glued) to the sender?
There is a wire attached to the bottom of that post and if the post isn't still firmly attached the wire takes the strain and all the flexing eventually breaks the wire.

I think it may be more a case of who has got one.
I got mine from what used to be TMS in Melton Mowbray. You could try phoning them because the guy I spoke to knew there were two different types and asked me which one I had - which I think basically comes down to the type of terminal on the top.
They are now knows as Prestige Performance Cars 11 Beler Way Melton Mowbray Leicestershire LE13 0DG Tel: 01664 481065 http://www.ppctvr.co.uk/
