Oil light came on in the Gallardo
Discussion
A friend lets me borrow his Gallardo E-Gear now and then for the odd weekend he is away - i picked it up on Friday and just after the several bleeps ended before i turned the ignition - The oil light came on? Bare in mind that it has only done 3k miles since it arrived from Lamborghini Birmingham and it rarely gets driven like it should be driven though is occasionally stuck in stop/start traffic as the roads are so busy nowadays.
Question is - does the car require a top-up of oil or could this be a more serious problem?, how much oil is routine for an E-Gear and what type of maintenence checks do you guys do and finally what type of oil should be used.
Note that no error codes appeared and the car is running fine.

The Gallardo does use some engine oil, and the level needs to be checked when the car is warm which you may not want to do. You may want to ask the dealer what to do.
The amount of engine oil used isn't related to the gearbox and one litre per 1000km (600miles) is regarded as acceptable - although far more moderate consumption is more typical. I use Mobil One on the dealer's recommendation but the instruction manual specifies Agip.
The e-gear oil level can only be checked by the dealer but when this is too low, you'll get an e-gear warning, not an oil light.
Apart from checking oil, keeping an eye on tyre pressures is wise

Hi, just before i fire-up. It actually went off as i crept to the local Petrol station for a litre of oil.
hummmmmm. Call me stupid, but I though ALL the warning lights were supposed to come on (a bulb test essentially) as you turn the ignition to the on position (having not fired it up yet) then they should all go out once the engine is running..... or are you in fact saying that the light goes on initially (with just ignition on) and then persists for a short while during which the engine is running...... sorry, just trying to clarify.Edited by Wanta996 on Tuesday 24th July 11:37
Hi Ade, its not my car so i dont really know the car that well but the way i start it up is basically - A. Key in the ignition,(couple of Beeps)OK text appears. B. Single click to the right - sit there for approx 6-7 seconds as it bleeps several times and i am sure that this is when the oil light came on - i could be wrong in the sequence but i can remember a sense of panic came over me at the time. I thought it may have been because the car was parked on a slight hill for over a week and the reading could be wrong.
Anyway the light came off as i drove towards the petrol station for some oil. Lamborghini Edinburgh are 50 miles away and are a new franchise so if its just a case of a top-up then this would be the prefered option rather than the car disapearing for a week to the garage.
