Hi,

Wonder if anybody can help, bought a very well looked after '95 4ltr Chimeara, on driving around generally the car feels very good, drives and stops in a straight line.

On motorways however at speeds of over 70 mph if you blip the throttle slightly it pulls to the right and then back in a straight line when you lift off.

I've had new front suspension bushes fitted and new springs and shockers, front engine mount, all the rear bushes, steering rack checked at RT Racing in Sheffield but can't seem to get the the bottom of it,
it's not a violent pulling but enough to unsettle the car and make it not very pleasurable to drive on motorways. I'd be very grateful for any advice on possible causes, one idea put to me is it could be the diff.

Cheers Jon Strong

In my mind there's a big question mark over the car's safety until you have sorted this out. There are no good reasons for it to do that, but there are some rather nasty ones.

The first ones that spring to mind are: different size/condition tyres left/right at the rear; corner weights or geometry a long way out; rear suspension flexing under load; rear suspension bent or broken; loose wheel or very badly worn bearings.

Whatever the problem is it's something fundamental that represents a significant risk as it stands and could conceivably lead to a catastrophic failure.

Maybe it's as simple as a worn bush that needs replacing, but IMO you should assume the worst until you have proved otherwise.

I would agree big time with Peter on this one.
There is no good reason for these simptoms but plenty of bad ones.
I see your in Yorkshire you could take a very steady run to Chesterfield to track car solutions and get the car and suspension geometry checked out quick.
I would be tempted to get the car on jacks first and have a close look at all the wishbones and wheel bearings first however just to make sure your not going to end up in a hedge somewhere on the way down.
Just my tuppence worth.
Paul.
