Over on the NSRA forum there are a few nice pics from a meeting in Switzerland last weekend.

This made me wonder how the event was organised in the light of the Swiss government's total ban on motor racing after Pierre Leveigh's crash at Le Mans in the 1950's...

Anyone know if Drag Racing has some kind of special diapensation because it doesn't go around corners?

Is that at Turtmann AFB? I've driven past it a few times, and it's an amazing setting. Drag racing with the Alps as the backdrop? Yes please! I've also seen rallying in that part of Switzerland (Rallye du Valais), indeed I think they have a domestic series (www.swissrally.ch), so there isn't a total ban. Maybe it's just permanent circuits?

Rallying and hill climbing are allowed because they don't involve multiple vehicles competing on the same track at the same time. It's a bit of a stretch, but you could probably claim drag racing is the same, as each car runs in its own lane.

Incidentally, the Swiss parliament voted to lift the ban a few weeks ago, but it's got a way to go yet before that becomes reality.
