Getting a popping noise from the fuel tank area. Don't think it's overrun as just got new MOT and emissions were fine. Happens mostly when I come to a halt a junctions and traffic lights. Maybe something to do with air pressure in tank? Any ideas?

Mine also does it .... mainly when it's hot outside. Something to do with the purge canister i think? If you do a search you should find more.

IIRC the bible mentions that this is a symptom of the carbon cannister being blocked or full or something - the fuel system usually vents through the cannister. Think it's a pretty nasty job to get to it though.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's the Carbon Canister that needs replacing.
Could anybody tell me the part number for a replacement Carbon Canister?

Theres a few variations, but I guess its the later integral one for your car. They are the Land Rover ones, but the Rover 200/400 parts are cheaper wink

Been quoted £55+VAT for a Carbon Cannister from an Indy TVR garage. No idea what brand it is. Anybody recommend a Rover/Unipart Carbon Cannister?

New Carbon Cannister now fitted. Problem solved. Total cost including labour was £150.
The loud bangs have now gone!

Blinking Heck Andy, I thought it was just slot in with a multi pin connector and 2/3 pipes all accessed thru the access hole on later cars? Seems a bit expensive to me (but I only want to pay 50p for anything wink ). Nice that you are the first person, I can recall, that has categorically reported this as a simple problem - solution.

Well it was 1.5 hrs labour and £55 for the Carbon Cannister.
Don't buy a genuine Land Rover Carbon Cannister (Range Rover V8 part) Was quoted £112 + VAT just for the part! I think mine was a Rover part. Could well be same part, different box! Land Rover boxes seem to be a bit dearer!!
