Does anyone know if 'late' door/window control boxes can be used in early (96) cars?

I've heard that it works the other way round.

'Early' control boxes are very thin on the ground and I need one.

unfortunately i do not know what the difference is between early and late but i guess pre 97 is early - anyone know the difference?

Cheers

David.

Are there two different types? I replaced my original window control box with a new one in 2005 with no problems...

I was told there were 2 different types. Not sure whether they would work or not.

ah -ha! Now what was the date of your car? And do you have the part number of the box please?

I didn't think there was a difference but bellhill informed me that the later one's ran via microswitches. (i think)

They are not sure if later boxes work in early cars.

The originals are not being made and you have to send yours off for repair (i have done this with one but have not heard back. I put a spare on from Bellhill but i reckon this is toast too. Everything works except my passenger window.

If both boxes work in the early 96 cars then my chances of getting a replacement off the shelf are higher.

Ltaer cars had a updated chip in them to get over the wider door seals fitted. My orignal box had the chip changed when the door seals were upgraded, to stop a water leak.

If you can get a later one, that way it will work with both the late and early door seals. Its all to do with the currentl the window motor pulls.

later box will work no problem because your early car wont pull so much current anyway, they are made up differently but do the same job

Racing Green had one in stock. Nice thing is they would post it to me then have a £60 reserve that i then send my busted box back to them. once I had their box i could instantly test it and send my bust box to them. They then refund me the £60 - I presume they organise to fix my box by sending it to this mysterious TVR electrician Pixie that no one can speak his name. My repaired box then sits back on their shelf for the next person.

neat.

Thanks for your help on this Pete, i'll drop round a few cans for you and the boys this week by way of my appreciation.
