...when I sell a car? I will be between cars for a few days/weeks when I have sold one, but will be getting another. In the past my ins co has got into a pickle as they can only canx the policy. then they "transferred" (whatever that means) all the ncb onto another car I had insured with them. Ideally, I just want to tell them about a change to a new car. There's no attempt to do anything here other than avoid hassle!

How bad is it not to tell them for a short period?

tks

I didn't tell my insurers when I changed. I can't see it being illegal, as you're just technically insuring a car still, but you have no use of it.

I'd wait for someone to say 'definitely', but don't out-and-out worry about it, as they're not going to think twice.

If the new owner tries to insure it, then there may be an issue.

I'm pretty sure there can only be one policy on a vehicle, but then again I could be wrong.

i dont think it matters either way, but in my experience will call them so they can log it.

Cannot you ask your Ins Co to SUSPEND temporarily the Policy then you can re contact when you have the new wheels, ask them to re-instate with the new VRM ?

Our son sold his first car to a mate who insured it, and we didnt postpone his insurance for the few weeks he was without a car. His mate ttted the car and the other guys insurers wrote to both insurance companies listed on the Insurance Database, hence we got a few nasty letters.

so, so easy! Call them up, tell em what's what, they suspend the insurance till renewal time or next car arrives!
Doh!
