Anybody know what the feck is happening with the traffice lights on the Parkway junction? They've been U/S for the past 3 days, causing lots of long tailbacks on the M1 in both directions (on top of the queues for the roadworks) Are the lights maintained by the HA? Why wouldn't they put a BiB on traffic duty on both off ramps to control traffic to get the queues off the M/way.Can't be safe having lots of standing traffic there...

Maybe it's a congestion charging run up scheme? 1. create congestion, 2. solve it with a congestion charge. Worked a treat in Londoff

If it was in town I might agree with you but this is a large M/W junction..

Oh dear I went through that junction a few times the other day and on each occasion thought how well traffic was flowing without the lights interfering with things.

When was the last time you saw a BiB directing traffic other than around a road accident (sorry, 'incident')??? On many occassions major congestion could be cleared in a few minutes by a Bib directing traffic, but nowadays it never happens.

From M1 N'bound to & from Rotherham General Hospital, and yes it wasn't 9:00 or 17:30 weekday.

Are those lights part time or did they end up on 24hour operation?

From what I remember FiF they always seem to be on. It has been chaos over the past few days, traffic queing for miles, mostly from Northbound traffic on the M1.

They seems to have been fixed now though.

They did used to be part time.....they appear to have fixed them now and lo and behold...no queues.I still think they could have put a bobby on for the busy times when the lights were kaput.

Aye, I got straight in today as well, parkways was surprisingly clear too! Yesterday it was backed up all the way down the M18 slip road, nightmare!

As I remember they were 24 hour before? I'd done a lot of driving to and from home, uni etc. late at night or very early morning and they have always been on, for the last few years or so anyway.

I agree with the police presence being needed, it was pretty scary driving behind people and them just going through the lights, without any apparent checking to their right, got knows how there werent a load of accidents.

Ah well, back to work I suppose!

Cheers
Tom

I was thinking more of possible issues with people queueing all the way back down the m/w.Lots of possibilties for tail end shunts in that lot.

I dont think Police presence would change peoples incapability to slow down in time and put hazards on, thus warning traffic behind of the clog up up ahead. How are you thinking they could be implemented in this scenario?

I was thinking that they could control the exit from the m/w at the roundabout, act like the missing traffic lights if you like...the cars exiting the m/w have to give way to stuff coming from Rotherham so a steady flow of traffic from there makes the m/w jam up.If the traffic from Rotherham could have been stopped by BiB then the queue would never build up on the m/w.Anyway they're fixed now,'til next time I suppose.
