hiya,

Have finally taken the plunge and got myself a 910 after getting lost and stressed out one too many times recently.

sadly, I have just unpacked it and already its annoying me.

firstly, the power lead into the computer base wont stay in, meaning it has to be bluetacked in place to get the thing to stay charging. great stuff.

secondly, and slightly more irksome-ly its already crashed. the screen is staying on a sort of illuminated blue but i cant get it to turn or off or do anything meaningful. what do i need to do? any help would be appreciated. i cant do anything with it, and i well, kinda want to.

yours,
annoyed and wishing he could just read maps.

1)Lay out everything that came in the box, and check each item off to ensure that you have everything.
2)Take box it came in, and carefully repack
3)Return to shop with the explanation "I'm too stupid to own this, a guy on the interweb said so"
4)Receive refund...

Seriously, the power lead ought to stay in properly, would be tempted to either check its fully seated, or return it.
Hanging SatNavs are quite rare. Does it have a little hole near the power jack that you could poke with something to reset it, or does holding the power button down not work?

PS Welcome to the future, now you can download jokey voices to annoy yourself, so we dont have to do it for you.

its fully seated. its a lead. i just have to plug it in. even i can manage that randy grumpy

it has a little hole into which ive poked already and neither that nor holding the power button is doing anything at all.

hehe, just checking...

Try popping the memory card out, poking the reset button, then making sure that's seated. They boot from the card, so if its not seated, that might cause issues.

Once its working again, try a full factory reset from the menu, see if that causes it. They are slightly prone to issues from attaching to a PC, specially if one of the Home updates has not installed properly.

Ah, it doesnt have one, does it? Never mind, persist with the reset button, but try doing it at the same time as the power button, see if that helps. As far as I know, you cant disconnect the battery, so otherwise its a back to Amazon jobbie (or wait a few days for the battery to discharge).

I have a 910 and have had both the problems you mention.

There isn't much you can do about the lead other than try and ensure it doesn't snag anything on the way from the power source to the docking station.

To get rid of the blue screen you do need to reboot but the reset button at the back is very fiddly to get at. I usually need a needle to get to it or a thin pen.

Finally before you connect the 910 to the docking station. Once you have put the software on your PC you need to get the latest upgrades first. That should stop it crashing when the 910 is connected.

i cant believe this thing is so shit that i have to wait days for it sort itself out, if maybe then. and this was supposed to reduce stress.

Keep persisting. I felt like this at first but glad I didn't give up as it is a fantastic unit.
