T350 or Tam help
Discussion
Hi,
I've been looking for a T350 / Tam for a while now and a guy I know has offered me his Tam. It's a 2004 with 13k on the clock in BR green with two tone leather (blue/beige I think) My question is - is the British Racing green a dodgy colour on a Tam as I've not seen many in this colour? He's asking £20k for it. What do you reckon?
Thanks in advance.

Agree with above. BRG is a nice colour but not with blue interior. Should be beige/green or beige/black inside. My advice would be to by a colour combination that you can stand and look at and think 'that car looks great' because if there is one thing you will notice about the car everyday it is the colour.
Thanks for the replies, I've got some pics of the car and the interior is green and beige, seats, door cards dash ect, actually looks quite nice. He says it's BRG but it doesn't look as dark as that to me. I know that there are some rascal colours not even to consider buying and I can wait for the right colour to come along but quite like the green but don't want to get stuck with it if it is a no no colour.
Also, I'm not really bothered about day to day running costs but is there anything I should really look out for, I know that this is a racing engine and at some point will need an engine rebuild, are they in the region of £5k to rebuild? I've owned M3's and Porsches but have always had a soft spot for a TVR I just want to make sure i've done all the possible checks I can before hand.

Sounds like a nice colour combo. Some peolpe have a thing about green cars being unlucky but I dontthink it would put me off. I've never had a green car. Only thing is the car has no air-con..... is this a must in a TVR?
It would not put me off - in fact I'd rather not have it.
Price wise, if its nice, and there are some hounds despite their age..., its sounds ok.

Air-con on a soft top is nice for muggy wet days but by no means a must as it is in a hard-top TVR. My Tamora did'nt have it and was rarely missed. The Tamora is a very good car and lived in the shadow of the Griffith. In comparison though it offers excellent value and is a far better sorted chassis for driver enjoyment.
Aircon like the color and model are a personal choice, personally I love aircon when its been or is raining it clears the dampness / steamed windows up quickly, also works great where you can't take the roof off. Only one issue with aircon, when your stuck in heavy traffic with hardly any air movement it can produce not quite ice cold air.

YES air con is a must even in a convertable our first Tamora did not have it thats why we sold it.Without air con it gets very very hot almost unbearable with the lid on.The Tamora we now have is fitted with A/con and is just the job and we can set ice cold or whatever its great.
Also worth noteing we were stuck in traffic on the M5 in our first Tam with the roof down on a hot sunny day again it was unbearable oh how I wished we had a/c that day.

In terms of the colour and interior for most people a TVR is a special car and therefore it should be something that you like. If a big concern is resale price then maybe something more mainstream would be better.
The Tam I have doesn't have aircon and I have never felt that I am missing out. Either it is sunny enough to have the roof off or cold enough not to, and then take the roof off anyway. In each case air conditioning not required. If it is a rainy day I have never had problems with misting up and no water comes in with the windows open an inch or so.
The Cerbera I had did have it, and as the sales guy said "if I sold you one without one you'd be buried in it". Again I never/rarely used it so maybe it depends on whether you are an air conditioning person or not......
Like everyone else on here this is just my experiences. If its a mates car get him to take you out on a sunny day and a rainy day (good chance of both of these in the same hour at the moment) and make your own mind up......

Colour combo sounds good to me(true british colours for a british car).
As for the air con I think it is handy to have it and would be a bonus when coming to resell it but it is not the be all and end all as it isn't that great anyway.
Good advise though is to take it to a specialist to have it checked over(TVR Power or dealer near you)as they will tell you any as much as possible.
Good luck!

Right,
Took the car out and absolutely loved it. Tam is going for a service this week so will be all ready for me. A couple more questions - I would still like to get the car inspected who would you guys use?
Regarding warranties i've been told that www.warrantyworks.co.uk Platinum warranty is ok with a £2.5k max claim limit unless anybody knows any better companies.
As the Tam looks outrageous anyway I may aswell fit a decent exhaust, any preferences?
Being a 2004 car will this have the more reliable engine or is it the same as earlier models?
Thanks in advance
