Anyone replaced their speedo before?
Discussion
My speedometer needle just fell off...LOL.
I doubt it's reattatchable anyhow; it looks broken.
It's not a crucial matter to me as the speed limit means f/a
anyhow, but it would be nice to fix.
Has anyone done this yet? Any good brand to buy?
Does anyone have one for sale? I'd give my left nut for a tach/speedo pair of
the sort that's upside down like some wedges.

I checked VDO's site out... they have speedo's that small, same fit, but unfortunately, they don't read up as high.... IIRC, 80 mph tops.

If I'm going to have to remove the dash, I may as well replace them all... my oil preasure gauge is wonky sometimes too.
Do you know if I can to remove the veneer for this, or is there no front access?

I'd get the old one out and have a look at it before buying a new one. Even if you get the right type I would have thought you would be extreamly luck to find one correctly calibrated. I took the bezel off mine when I sprayed them, don't seem to remember it being that difficult. Cheers Steve

What happened - did you hit the end stop and snap it?? ;^)I woudl open up the speedo and stick it back on, will be less hassle all round. Use some cyanoacrylate glue - the viscous type so you can build up extra 'plastic', plus you can get a special cyanoacrylate setting spray to make the job nice and quick.

Removing the dashes. My veneer was wedged in, no pun intended, but the securing screws had no nuts on the other side. Take out the radio, feel to the left and right in the gap and bingo! Then remove hat off the mirror switch, and anything else like the heater lever slip ons. VERY carefully pull the veneer off. Its on a plate of metal. Bending will, I assume, crack it (veneer). Then there is a metal plate separate to the veneer assembly and held in with two screws. The heater control levers are secured to this and need removing, this is where nuts drop off down the back somewhere and are like the back of sofa's. Never see them again but find a boiled sweet instead. There is also a bulb with optical fiber (of very dubious quality) feeding the switch illumination. Need putting back when you knock them out. Probably missed a few things.[edit]

Dash above steering wheel. Mine was held in with one bolt from the veneer plate through the instrument plate. That was held in with a DIY from hell which I replaced with large penny washers and suitable nut and bolts.
