Hi, I've been very lucky up until now with my cerbera onwership, I have a 1998 4.5 and absolutely love it. After trouble free motoring for 18 months it let me down for the first time, with a leaking steering rack.
Sent it off too get it recon but it turns out to have a cracked casting, I know I can get secondhand ones for around £475 + vat, but I was wondering if anyone had a damaged rack with a 'good' outer? let me know I'd be interested - I know its a long shot!

Also its soon going to be time too get the chassis up to a good standard, its not as bad as some I've seen but it bugs the hell out me seeing flakey powder coating, so as were have such a bad summer I'm thinking of taking the body off now as its not currently running, I was wondering what the thoughts are on galvanising the chassis?

My 20 year old esprit I had was still perfect, to me it seems the best solution.

Anyone know the the weight of the bare chassis as I have a price of £750/ton for galvanising.

Many thanks
Malc

I would guess that the bare chassis is about a 3rd of a ton?

I'm investigating this at present. I've been warned off galvanising. Could add lots of weight and makes welded repairs difficult and dangerous. Cold zinc, followed by special chassis paints seem to tbe the recommended option. You should see some of the chassis repairs on this forum, beautiful!
