And then there were some more hassles.........
Discussion
A weekend of fault finding, may be I shouldn't go looking?!!
1. Radiator has sprung a leak, has anyone used Wynn's before? or should I recore? [anyone know of anyone in Cambs?]
2. Stitching going near velcro on hood. Again anyone know of someone in Cambs, who can repair these? [or further if necessary]
3. What glue do I use for the same velcro as above, it has parted from the bodywork. Don't want to use the wrong stuff.
4. Bonnet heat shield has fallen off, can you stick it back in situ? or do you need to take the boonet off? What glue is the best?
I'll stop there for the time being; not sure if all these ills are me being perdantic or just typical TVR problems?!
Thanks for any help
Regards
George

Hi George
Sorry to hear of the niggles, It is a TVR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just stick with it and on the days it all goes OK (and that is quite a few)the niggles just don't matter and the whole world takes on a different appearance. The smile on your face will convince you that getting your TVR was one of the best decisions you've ever made.

I'd say pedantic. I just looked at your profile - it says you have a 1995 Chimaera. The rad leak is unlucky, but to be honest, can bits of loose trim and perished glue really be described as 'all these ills' on an 8 year old car? I don't think you're dealing with TVR unreliability issues here, it's just what you would expect from any car of that age.
Get a big needle and a thimble and do the stitching yourself (I do), and some glue, and enjoy your car.

I would expect most of these problems to occur [unfortunately, not all at the same time!]. These 'ills' are my ills and not really TVR's although I would expect that some of the design issues may have played a small part. The real issue is the depair I am showing; not looking to blame anyone but I am looking for some guidance.

Can you suggest a good thread and glue?

If you go in to somewhere like Hobbycraft,
Gutermann do a super-strength thread (can't remember what it's called). I'm assuming your hood is blue, and I think I've still got loads left from my last car, so if you drop me a mail I'll have a look over the next few days and send you some. Waterproof the stitching with a bit of Thompson's when it's done and it's less likely to degrade as quickly.
You'll need to buy needles - I use short ones ('betweens') because long ones bend, or you can get leather needles which are heavy duty and brilliant. Might need pliers to pull it through.

guess someone wont be going on your insurance policy then
i've had problems with the roof stitching... on my 1995 Chimaera it just rots as I leave it outside all the time. Same with the velcro i think. Doesnt bother me esp when you look out the window, see the sun is shining and KNOW that your TVR was built for days like these
