Silverstone this weekend

I was up at Silverstone this afternoon helping to assemble a display of Group C cars. What has become apparent is that this weekend at Silverstones wonderful annual Historic meeting will be the largest assembly of Group C cars that there has ever been and that will ever be together in one place at one time again. There are 50 cars lined up on the old straight with (+) 30 cars racing over the weekend. We are talking about 80 Group C cars from Porsche 956 to the very last 962, all the Jaguar XJR9's these have never been together at one place before (never mind the XJR5 7,8,10,11,12,12D,16's) Intrepid and March, Nissan Spice Tiga the list goes on and on. There is even a C100 never seen for 25 years.
If you love these cars (never mind the historic F1's and the rest) this is a 1 off not to be missed event!

Oh yes! I'm heading down there tomorrow after work for the weekend. It's not just the cars, but those classic bikes look top notch.

It was an excellent event last year but this year sounds even better.

I also read that the very first 956, in Rothmans colours, will be on display too. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday, come rain or shine, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'd better get myself a decent supply of tabs then. All that tobacco advertising going round the track, it'll be hard to resist. Have you seen that the Le Mans movie is being shown on a big screen before the dusk race starts? Be rude to miss that I think.

No 'R' in the Group C jobbys I promise you! And yes the 1st Rothmans 956 is there as is the very last 962. It was very tight inside Derek Bells works 962 when I moved it around ...... Think I'll stick to the Jags next time ..... It was hell!

Hi there,

Had a superb day at Silverstone today. Would normally have gone on Saturday or Sunday but had already made other plans.

I am a massive Le Mans fan and my favourite cars are the Silk Cut Jaguars that raced in the late 80's and early 90's. I had heard that there was a big Group C celebration planned this weekend so I knew I had to go.

All I can say is WOW !!!!.

There were so many Group C cars on display it was one of the best days out I have ever had.

what an awesome day. great racing all day, especially the sportscar race in the rain, T70s and GT40s sideways out of woodcote! every race was enjoyable from the pre war sprtscars to the Group C race.

my sincere thanks to everyone who now flocks to the goodwood revival, you made my day! no traffic on the way in to the circuit, no crowds in the paddocks, no crowds in the grandstands, no crowds......anywhere!

I had an excellent day out, my first race meeting this year, and definitely worth every penny

I dont know if some of the drivers were having 'fun' in the last race on saturday, or whether they were struggling to control gt40's and lola t70s in some rather wet conditions

well it was fun to watch the cars struggle to get the power down out of luffield

i love the fact u can just randomly wander around the paddock and pit garages (within reason) seems to be a really good atmosphere, reminds me of the coys meetings from a while back

and the amount of group c cars they got running aswel was impressive, a few more than last year, top stuff

- this spice was probably my favourite car of the day, very neat and simple design, and well driven by dave mercer? aswel

Fantastic day,never seen as many elites in my life,spitfire made the hairs on your neck tingle,the Spice sonded poorly and stopped out on the circuit i think,saw two wedges, two griffs and two cerbs but did not see an elderly mman building a large boat.Tempus
